No longer open. It was closed down and is being remodeled. It was very good when it was open though.

We always visit the Balsams when we travel to Colebrook in New Hampshire and usually pick up a T shirt or other souvenir when we stay, but were quite surprised that it is closed until further notice. It is under new ownership and being completely renovated. The lake and surrounding area there is truly gorgeous!

Stayed here many times over the years and it is like being on a docked cruise ship, two golf courses, outdoor pool, ski area, lake with boats, hiking trails, movie theater, ballroom and lounge with entertainment, and wonderful food.I went to the auction on 5/12 and it was sad to see all the things being auctioned off including some lovely oriental rugs.I have heard new owners want to install central air. The Balsams is right in Dixville Notch and the wonderful mountain air is such a plus. I can't imagine eating dinner in the dining room with all the windows closed and the a/c running, Yuck! The also had a culinary school on the premises and the food was so good. They auctioned off the 2 tiered table where the desserts were placed at lunch. It was Mahogany and only went for $300.Please keep the dress code, don't make it a cookie cutter lodging property. The Balsams was so distinctive if too much is changed who will bother to go since it is so far north.

Une halte charmante dans un décor grandiose et sauvage. Le charme suranné des vieux grands hôtels du New Hampshire.
