The Monday-Thursday dinner specials are a great value. They include soup or salad, and the number of selections is more than one would expect. My personal favorite is the pork Milanese, it is excellent! Drinks are very reasonable. It's a great deal all around.

The $5.00 lunch menu has a lot more than sandwiches. I believe there are about 25 items in several categories to choose from. Portion sizes are decent, not skimpy yet not huge. The quality of the food is very good and the service is fast and efficient. The ambiance is nice also. Parking lot is a bit tight, but manageable. You can only do so much with the land you have.

It is close to home, so sometimes when we just want a burger and no wait, we head to the BR.The service is always friendly, the food is ok.

TRIP ADVISOR: You have this listed as an attraction. It is a restaurant/bar.It's hard to rate this place because I go here often for their Wednesday night trivia. A few notes on trivia: they run a very well done World Tavern Trivia program, which is a national thing that's very well organized. The trivia guy is fun, personable, nice, efficient, and fair. I've been to several places and this one does the best job. For this reason, I've only been here on Wednesday nights at 9pm.There is an active bar scene but we always sit in the restaurant part. They are very accommodating to trivia participants, letting us sit where we want, order the specials a few minutes late, and sometimes it and eat while only having an appetizer or drinks. The wait staff is generally good -- the women waitresses seem more attentive and better than the male waiters, to be stereotypical but true in my experience -- and the owner and bartenders all are very good. The food is fairly average bar fare, with some things above and below average. We've had a lot of different orders over the last year, so here are some thoughts: the appetizers are very average. They have a "munchies" platter, basically a sampler of mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, and potato skins. These are all separate appetizers too. All of these things are exactly what you expect. They also have sliders, very typical. The salads are big and good. The sandwiches I've had were all good -- burgers, specialty burgers, French dip, chicken parm, vegetable panini, I'd say they were all slightly better than what you might expect. They have a dinner special that runs until 9pm, where you can get a meal that comes with bread and sides. Some of these are better than others. The lobster ravioli is very lobster-y. The tortellini is good and cheesy. The pasta dishes are all average. The stuffed pork loin is OK but the sauce it comes with is delicious. The wait staff keeps the refills on sodas coming very nicely and efficiently. The only dessert I've tried was very bad and I didn't even want to finish it. The desserts are definitely prepared elsewhere, frozen, and defrosted as needed.Overall, we go for the trivia, friends, and service. It's not the place to go just for food.

My family of four ate at the Brass Rail for lunch today and we all ordered off the special menu and were really impressed. All of the items were no more than $5 and came with generous helpings and small sides. I had the spinach pie and Greek salad. The pie was delicious. The salad was a little over saturated in an Italian dressing. Our waitress was friendly and our food arrived quickly. This was an unexpected, pleasant lunch in the Marlboro-Matawan area, which is usually an overpriced and met with surly waitstaff experience. If you are looking for a nice meal with reasonable prices, try the Brass Rail-it won't be Top Chef dining, but you will leave happy with some leftover change in your pocket, and in this area how often do both happen?
