Its a shame that Carlsbad can spend tons of money on new buildings while neglecting this fine old historical structure. There is trash every where and the landscaping obviously has no care. With all the water one would think Carlsbad could water the area. If Carlsbad takes no pride in this historical house, one would wonder what else is being neglected. Not worth you time to visit as it is so depressing.

It's actually a pretty good historical place but it is apparently used as a lunch hang out and there is garbage strewn about. Still worth the look.

The Southeastern New Mexico Historical Society moved each stone of this historical house individually to Heritage Park. The house was a line shack for the ranch which belonged to Charles B. Eddy - the man who the town was originally named after. Enjoy the park, sit back and relax!

We made a special trip to see this historic site of the first house in Carlsbad and were so disappointed. The windows into the house have been broken, there was trash everywhere. The park is totally neglected and looks abandoned by the city. Shame on you, Carlsbad, for presenting this as an attraction to visitors. Could be very nice if someone showed up with a trash bag and a weed eater.
