The Pecos National Historic Park offers self guide trail tour through the Native American ruins, and the Spanish Ruins including the Catholic Monastery. The views of the mountains are spectacular, amazing, wow.. The trail is clearly marked, and each ruin is marked, along with the ecology (plant life)., The Visitor Center/Museum are currently open 8:30-4:00. The Museum has displays and interactive exhibits covering the Pueblo Indians, the Spanish, and the American Civil War Battle of Glorieta Pass. Moreover, there is the storied Forked Lightning Ranch, in the Park.There is a story behind the Ranch,,,I do not want to ruin that for anyone who has not visited the park yet. The fee for the Pecos Historic Park is $3.00 for anyone 16 and older. There is a frequent user pass the costs $10.00 per year. The store sells gifts, and souvenirs on the History and the Ecology of the area including the Pueblo, Spanish, and American Civil War. I purchased post cards, hat pins, and a shirt. The Park is well maintained, clean and neat, has ample parking, and is well staffed byfriendly and knowledgeable park rangers... Finally the park is around 30 miles West from the center of Sante Fe. The Trip to the Pecos National Historic Park, and Sante Fe was a side day trip from the Main trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico, 8 days in May 2012. When walking through the trails, you can imagine yourself transported back in time, passing walking around and some times with in the ruins. The signs give you a great explanation on how life was for the Pueblos and the Spanish conquest before the United States....The Battle of Glorieta Pass, 03/28/ 1862. is well defined too. Glorieta , NM is around 15 miles West of Pecos, and half way back to Sante Fe, NM.. We drove up passed the Battlefield.. Since 1993 Glorieta Pass Battlefield became part of the National Park Service. Pigeon's Ranch, is around 20% of the Battle filed, 80% private ownership. The Pecos National Monument manages Glorieta Pass Battlefield and supported by the Glorieta Battlefield Coalitions, a non profit organization. bring a camera, water, and snack. and your CAMERA!!!!!***There are less than 2500 historic sites on the National Historic Landmark. They include. Pecos National Historic Park Glorieta Pass Battlefield Trip was with my Mother, no children, category not below. New Mexico, The Land of Enchantment. This park is located about 25 miels east of Santa Fe NM.Along the trail you will see "Kiva" which is a cermonial chamber built of rock. Inside is a "sipapu" or spirit hole, fire pit and roof entries. It was through these roof entires that the Pueblo Indians believed their ancestors entered this world.

Stopped here mainly interested in the Glorieta civil war battle. It was interesting touring the pueblo, but we were especially grateful when the people working the front desk gave us tips on getting to the battle site at a separate location, including details on getting through the gate and finding the trails. It was a nice added bonus and so many thanks to the staff for helping get us that opportunity. For our out of town guests from the UK it was a great find.

This park gave a great view into past of what the incoming civilization did to the existing one in the area. Landscape around the park is beautiful, filled with rolling hills. The ruin is a great monument of the occurrence and the shape is . This is a good facility to take the young ones to so that they can put real places into the things that they learned in school.It is located not too far from Santa Fe and makes a great destination for a day trip.

A very haunting place. It always makes me think of all that has gone on in this country when I visit this park. It is quite beautiful, the park rangers are very well informed and it is never crowded. Well worth a visit.

My family and I visited Pecos National Historic Park in early October 2014. The park is off the highway but well marked. The main portion of the park features a visitor's center which contained an informative video, and a very neat timeline. Once done here, the trail to see the ruins begins just out the back door. The trail is paved but uphill all the way to the ruins. There are several stops along the way, which correlate with a walking tour pamphlet provided at the visitor's center. The highlight of the ruins is the mission built on top of a destroyed mission. It was very neat to see, and read about. I would recommend visiting this park if interested in Spanish Rule, Native American History, New Mexican History, or just interested in the National Parks System. Admission to Pecos is also valid at Fort Union as well.

We went to the park in the afternoon figuring we would start that afternoon and finish the next day. It had some really cool ruins, but not a lot else. It was peaceful and quiet but they advertise for a civil war trail. When I asked, even the park ranger didn't sound enthused.

Off the beaten track but well worth it. Gorgeous area and ruins and history of pueblo are quite astonishing. Very well informed, friendly and helpful rangers.

Wonderful visit to the Forked Lightning Ranch - an Open House in celebration of the 110th Birthday of Greer Garson Fogelson. It was a special day - with mariachi musicians playing and many of the rooms open to visitors. The park Rangers were there to talk about the Fogelsons - who donated thousands of acres of their property which became the Pecos National Historic Park. Don't miss the church ruins either.

Southeast of Santa Fe and a few miles off I-25. At the Visitor Center, I got my National Park passport stamps and the official map and guide brochure. The fee also covers Fort Union! Then out the back door on the paved one-mile trail that leads around the area by pueblo building and kiva ruins, finally ending up at the main attraction, the church ruin.

A treasure in this area, great visitor center, informative staff, amazing history and a beautiful hike around the ruins with information to truly enjoy and appreciate the significance of this area. Views for miles. A gem of New Mexico and the US.

Staying in Santa Fe we rode out to this beautiful national park where we found great people especially the volunteer on duty. Wounderful history and great walk through the past.

My husband and I as well as our 8 and 10 year old really enjoyed Pecos NHP. The walk through the area was very educational and the ruins were very interesting. The museum in the Visitors Center was really good and had many artifacts. My kids took part in the Junior Ranger program and earned their badge.

Has a great staff. The hiking is very easy. If you want to take the Battle of Glorieta hike you have to ask for the gate code. They have a great museum with artifacts.

The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The trail is perfectly maintained. Very informative guide booklet and overall a wonderful national park experience.
