The Caldera is an awe inspiring place whether you see it for the first or the hundredth time. I see you visited us last September. Did you hear any elk bugling during the rut? Please come back to visit us in the spring when the landscape is in bloom and the newest generation of elk are born. You won't regret it. Thanks very much for taking the time to write about your experience. - Terry

Thanks so much for visiting and taking the time to write a review. I invite you to come back in the spring when the Preserve is in bloom and the meadows are green and grazed by the elk. That's when we'll be open 7 days a week and hosting guided hiking and van tours that will allow you to get up close and personal with the flora, fauna and geology of the Preserve. Please come back. - Terry

During the winter months we're open Friday-Sunday only. However, during the spring and summer from May 15th on we are open 7 days a week. Of course there won't be any snowshoeing but you'll have plenty of room to hike, bike or take a van tour around the Preserve. It's worth another trip and another review from you. Thanks for taking the time to visit and writing a review. - Terry

Working at a world class example of calderas and resurgent domes, we are geology nuts ourselves. We are glad you had a great time! Thanks for sharing your experience with us. - Rob

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. The undeveloped nature of this land makes it easy to imagine what it looked like thousands of years ago. Time with Carmen on the Valles Caldera is well spent. She truly loves exploring this natural wonder with visitors and it shows.

Thanks very much for visiting AND taking the time to write about your visit. The best times to see the elk are early in the morning or in the late afternoon. They will remain on the Preserve until the snow flies or forage becomes more difficult to find. During the late fall and winter months we are open Fri-Sunday for snowshoeing and Xcountry skiing (if there's snow) and hiking. Please come back to see us soon.-Terry

The Preserve is home to an elk herd of 2000+. Late summer into the fall is when the elk are very active. The best times to see them are early morning or late afternoon when they venture down into the grassy areas. You can also see them throughout the spring and summer by taking one of our van tours for an up close and personal look. We also have van tours running during the weekends this fall. Thanks very much for taking the time to write about your visit. Come back soon.-Terry

Next time you're in the neighborhood try one of our evening wildlife van tours for an up close and personal look at the other critters that make the Preserve their home. Thanks again for visiting and for taking the time to write about your experience. - Terry

Jim Trout is one of our unexpected treasures on the Preserve. Every time I visit with him he has another story about the area that I have not heard. He is a wealth of knowledge and fun to be with. I understand he now includes a peice of recent history when he stops to visit the cabin that serves as Sheriff Longmire's home on the hit show "Longmire". Next time he can take you to the are where Johnny Depp acted a few scenes for "The Lone Ranger". Thanks for taking the time to write the review. Please come back soon. Terry
