We used to go every weekend when the lake had water. then the drought took over and they had to drain the lake down to a mud puddle and a small river (Pecos). Haven't been up there since the rains have come back to New Mexico. Hope it is filling back up.

As the other reviewer said, it's an oasis! The park has tons of space to walk around and lots of waterfront spots to fish, relax and camp. There is only one playground, but who goes to a state park for a playground?

We've driven past this park for years, but never stopped. We decided to stay this time as a layover on the way home from on our most recent trip to Utah/Arizona. Normally we stop at the old KOA in Santa Rosa, NM. We're very glad we made reservations here. What a nice park! The sites are huge, and well spaced. It's quiet, with no highway noise. The lake is renowned for it's walleyes. The lake is part of the Pecos River system, and has a lot of birds to watch. We stayed in a fifth wheel camper. We had a very good LTE 4G connection on our Verizon mobile hot spot. (20 Mb/s down, 6 up)
