It's true that the whole set-up is a bit anal (very limited access in the house) and the tickets very expensive (I was lucky to get one the day-of, but there was not one for my husband). But to be in Abiquiu and see this stunning home and the surrounding nature will make you see O'Keefe's work with a new eyes. If you're keen on her art it's not to be missed. If you're keen on amazing architecture in amazing settings, it's also not to be missed.Go to the gas station down the road and pick up some Monk's Ale, brewed nearby, while you're there. Yum!

The tour lasts actually 40 min (you take a return trip to the house by minibus), constantly pushed by a bored usher, who hardly speaks English but is very good at rushing you from one patio to the next. You don't enter the rooms, since they have fragile floors, you just look briefly through doorways or windows. The uncharismatic guide, more like an elementary schoolmaster who never became the fairy she always dreamed to be, bombards your ears with a memorized text, monotonous like a tape recorder. The information is similar from the film screened at the visitors centre, with the added bonus of useless trivia about the gardener, the kitchen pantry etc. People ask irrelevant things and the answers take time. The beauty of the setting is spoiled by this constant, annoying chatter of "artsy ladies going for tea", punctuated by "uh", "ah" and conventional laughter. Who cares about art and architecture when we can discuss about watering pumpkins. Remember, you're in a big group, you have to wait till everybody has moved out of the doorway, so that you could see something. 35$ and no photos allowed ! So that they could market their brochure ! I was hoping that the Santa fe Museum could come up with a more professional setup.

The guide was very entertaining. I was overwhelmed by the house; loved the style and the VIEWS through the windows! Well worth the price and drive out from Santa Fe.

I have had Georgia O'Keeffe's Abiquiu Home & Studio Tour on my bucket list ever since I first came across one of her paintings as a college student. I just had to go witness for myself the colors and the peacefulness I felt looking at her paintings of the vast skies, sunsets and landscapes of New Mexico and see what she saw through her eyes. This tour did not let me down. My sister and I were visiting Santa Fe, so we took a detour about 50 minutes away to the quaint town of Abiquiu, where we gathered at the Abiquiu Inn for a shuttle to her home up a small winding road. (Reservations are a must, as they only take 12 people on each tour, which runs at set hours during the a day.) The inn itself is complete with bungalows, a small restaurant, gift store and bathrooms. The shuttle driver was actually the grandson of her gardener. The tour guide was knowledgeable, and we got to take our time tip-toeing through her home, viewing her gardens and viewing, first-hand, the beautiful vistas just as she must have seen them through the many windows she had installed in the Spanish adobe house. And there was plenty of gee-whiz information provided by the guide, like the fact that she had a fallout shelter built underneath a section of her property (off limits, of course) that was well-stocked for emergencies.As much as I would have loved to capture each step we took on camera, I'm glad they are not allowed - nor are cell phone, pets or other distractions. Just as it should be. It is a peaceful and spiritual place that started out as a place in ruins and was resurrected by her like a phoenix rising from the ashes. So I've marked one more thing off my bucket list, and whenever I feel stressed and need to 'go to my happy place,' I only have to close my eyes and recall standing on a precipice behind her house, with a gentle breeze blowing, looking down at the ochre cottonwood trees dotting the quilted landscape of farms and flat lands that eventually lead - literally - to a purple mountain's majesty.Visit www.okeefemuseumorg/abiquiu-tour.html.

The tour was punctual. Bus ride short. Tour guide, Pita, was first hand knowledgable. She and her brother were able to answer most any question posed. Much of the house was off limits, being viewed beyond a rope or through a window or door way.i'm glad I went as photos of the house don't do it justice, nor do its own artist's renditions. The landscape is interesting. The garden was finished as my visit was in the fall, but I looked like it had been impressive. The surrounding area seen from the property is stunning. For the price it was a nice way to spend the afternoon. i enjoyed more than the museum in Santa Fe, which was only partly open - a small part.

I've seen cathedrals in Europe, and O'Keefe's home was the most sacred space I've visited. Looking out the windows and seeing the subjects of her paintings was powerful. It is well worth seeing.

A glimpse into the life of an artistic icon. Protected and respected by the Foundation. A true joy to visit!

I am amazed that this attraction has so few reviews. Regardless, it is an amazing tour and well worth the time and money. Plan on about an hour and a half from Santa Fe. Lunch at the Inn where you meet for the tour is fun. Also, visit Ghost Ranch while you are there. They are very serious about no pictures, cell phones, bags or purses, so leave them in the car. Our tour guide was wonderful with lots of information. We are photographers and missed our camera, but quickly got over it. Our tour was a little over an hour and the time passed much too quickly, but we were able to get a great taste of what Georgia O'Keeff's life was like. What more can I say, if you are a fan, just do this!

We were drawn to visit her home, and the countryside was beautiful on the way up. We stopped to take pictures and admire the geology and surroundings. But the actual tour was a disappointment. Part of the home can be entered, part of it you can only look through windows. No pictures allowed -- not even the views from the outdoors. The tour guide was knowledgeable and nice, but there was way too much time on little random details. And surprisingly little about her actual art career. I'd pass if I had it to do again and just stick with the O'Keefe museum in town.

Our tour guide was Barbara, and she was the best--passionate without being "drippy", knowledgeable about the Home and Studio, and interesting in her manner of presentation. She answered all questions with grace and patience and took the time to allow us to absorb the stunning panoramic view that O'Keeffe prized. I would wait 15 years for the property, too, as Georgia O'Keeffe did!The tour is worth the price!

I'm not much on guided tours, and not even that much of a Georgia O'Keeffe fan. That should lend me some street cred when I tell you that this is a place worth seeing. The house and studio say so much about this influential and somewhat quirky woman. It has been left as it was when she died, and so I felt as if I was able to see so much more of the person behind the art. The history of how she decided to move to Abiquiu and how she obtained the property is fascinating. The tour guides are extremely knowledgalbe and interesting. I am so glad we didn't pass this up. The office is also right next to the Abiquiu Inn which has a nice restaurant and gift shop.

This tour started at the Inn at Abiquiu with a short video of the history of the area and how it influenced the art O'Keeffe produced. The tour is limited to 12 people, taken to the property by minibus and no baggage is allowed. The vista is breathtaking, the home is stark in its minimalism in the exterior as well as the interior. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and informative. We were inspired to send some postcards from the Abiquiu post office, stop at Bode's general store and make the 13 mile ride to Ghost Ranch. The most beautiful day trip from Santa Fe.

Book early online ($30 each senior?) and go see her home before you see her work in Santa Fe. Only 12 people at a time; they show a short film before taking you via van shuttle to her home/studio. Either lock purse/cell/camera in your vehicle or put them in the small lockers which they provide. Take printed directions because cells get no reception for gps. You can get food at the hotel/restaurant near where you meet for the tour, and use their bathroom before departure. Very special!
