Hands down the best museum in the region!! Great staff and super displays and museum treasures. Love their family events. A destination must in cody and Yellowstone!

This collection of museums of one of the best in the west - literally! Whether you like firearms, history, art or culture, there is something here for you.

The museum is larger than it appears from the outside and well worth the visit. Each section dives well into a variety of Western themes. From Guns to Native American history to the American Cowboy to Western Art to Natural History it provides the best overall view of the west. The hands-on aspect is helpful to engage and explain the information to younger children. Although a quick trip through the center can be done, it is well worth spending a full day to enjoy everything it has to offer. They do offer strollers if you didn't bring one.

I have been to this museum numerous times throughout growing up in the area, and it is always a new experience. I love the Indian exhibits and the outdoor fire exhibit. Always a good time to go and the staff is very friendly and knowledgable.

We were driving from Wyoming to Montana. I wasn't aware of this museum but came across it as we passed through Cody, Wyoming so we decided to stop. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed it. The museum details "Buffalo Bill" Cody's life which I found very interesting. The story is told through a variety of exhibits and photographs and definitely kept my attention. There is a gun museum within this museum which we did not view. If you have the time and you are somewhat interested in history, then you will probably find this enjoyable.

My family visited the Buffalo Bill Center when we were in Wyoming for a family reunion. It was well worth the two hour trip by car from Buffalo to arrive at a wonderful little town and museum nestled at the entrance to Yellowstone. The extensive firearms exhibit and displays were a reminder of the awesomeness that was western survival and innovation. A stark reminder of the freedoms we enjoy in this country and those who fought to insure those freedoms throughout history. The wildlife exhibit is breath takingThe children's museum can be enjoyed by kids of all ages. Lots of hands on interactive experiences for all to enjoy. The western art gallery and sculpture gardens are a great place to sit, relax, and reflect on days gone by. Great attraction for the budget conscious family. I would suggest making this a two day visit as there are 5 museums located on this property.

This Smithsonian quality museum is a MUST stop if you go to Cody. Please take as much time as you can to visit this wonderful place. Your admission ticket is a two day pass to come back again the next day and you will want to find some time for your 2nd visit, I promise you! Look upstairs and downstairs AND outside at all the wonderful things to be seen. GREAT for your children and grandchildren also. There is a junior program and a booklet they can use to stamp as they visit sections of the museum. What a wonderful place! There is also a place you can eat or get a cup of coffee or a soft drink and take a rest. This wonderful museum is WELL worth your time, it's beautiful!

COST: Worth the price as there are actually five museums under one roof. The admission is good for two days and if we had planned to be here for another day, we could most definitely have enjoyed looking for two days, but as it was we only saw two of the five museums and we spent the entire afternoon there. It can be exhausting, so if you have children, a good plan would be to visit the museum for four hours each of the two days.BEST PART: You have to love a museum that posts signs: "Please touch" throughout the exhibits.FAVORITE EXHIBIT: We loved the raptor presentation at 1 p.m. in the main lobby. They did a fantastic job of explaining about each raptor and we all learned a lot.The Gun Exhibit is extensive and very educational even if you aren't really "into" guns. The Buffalo Bill Exhibit and Plains Indians Exhibit were both outstanding. Extremely well done.If you are planning a trip near Cody, be sure and spend at least one day at the museum. You will be glad you did.

Yes, CarolTCK, this museum is not subsidized by the US Treasury, you have to pay to see all the historical items from the West. Yes, the tickets are good for 2 days, and you should expect to spend both of them totally absorbing what this fantastic museum has to offer. Hmmm, the British Museums are also free to enter and not subsidized by their Government. If you are a firearms afficionado, spend hours looking at all the historical rifles, pistols, and even military machine guns from the past. Not my interest, though. The natural history section has a lot of preserved specimens from all over the west. This is probably the best section for your kids under 13 years of age. There is a lot to see.If you want to be disturbed by the way the invaders from Europe treated the American natives, then spend some time in the plains Indians section, and expect to be saddened by how poorly WE treated these people who had been here for eons.Even if you only hit one of the several themed sections, plan to be in that section for at least 4 hours to really take it all in.
