For a small town museum, this was rather alright. Especially since it's free. The displays were interesting and some were interactive. It was small but interesting. Definitely worth a stop to stretch your legs.

I especially like the outbuildings in this museum where you can see the first school in Dubois (where my husband's grandmother first taught!) and the tools of the trade of the local tiehackers. This region was originally home to the Sheepeater Indians and there's some good info inside the main building about the original peoples of the region. This is a surprisingly rich area in history and its story tells a lot about the settling of the West.

Nice job of keeping old original buildings in good shape. Nice Exhibits inside and outside. People were very friendly and helpful

Free, well spaced exhibits and great great bathroom. Sally led us on a driving/hiking tour of tie hack history, but you could lead yourself with their brochure. The outside exhibits were extremely interesting - especially about tie hacks. A good place to stop with a park just outside for your picnic.

Pleasant surprise! Though the inside exhibits were very interesting, telling history of the surrounding area, my son really enjoyed running around the outside exhibits!

There are exhibits inside and outside. Free - run on donations. This small museum tells the history of Dubois and the surrounding area. There are exhibits inside and outside. We were greeted warmly by a volunteer. After a nice chat, we had a look around. Outside there were some very old gas pumps that my husband liked. We took some photos. Then we went back in a purchased a t shirt for a grandson to take home. Dubois is a beautiful area. Don't rush through town, because there are places to see, places to eat & places to stay overnight.

This may be a small museum but don't let the size fool you -- exhibits are very informative and well-organized. As others have said, take time to look at the outbuildings because those are very interesting. I believe the admission was by donation only and it's well worth putting a few $ into the box.

We stopped at Dubois to rest and stretch and were glad that we took the time to browse this museum. Dubois is a tiny frontier town on the way to Yellowstone or the Tetons. There is not a whole lot inside, but it is interesting and don't miss all the outbuildings that have been reconstructed to reflect frontier life in a different era. There is no charge here, but please donate a few bucks to help keep nifty places like this going. Stop, stretch and take a few minutes to peruse this worthwhile little place.

We signed up fo a geological walk in the wind river area. It was very fun! Hiked back to some beautiful falls and had a very knowledgable guide named Sally who was passionate about geology. The museum has many unusual displays related to the Sheepeater tribe of people. They also have some great taxidermied animals, we found it very interesting.

Nice stop over. A lot of local history. We really enjoyed the local cabins that had been moved and the history of the area. The curator, Mary Jane, was very informative. Would recommend this to anyone passing through Dubois.

Take time to visit this museum. We enjoyed it very much and learned a lot about the area, its history, and wildlife.

This is a wonderful and well kept museum featuring local historical and natural displays both indoors and outdoors. Every (mid)July there is a special Saturday for Museum Day in which homemade stew, fry bread, bakery items etc. are for sale and/or donations with live music and folks often in period costumes showing craft skills. This is a better-then-you-might-expect place to visit, including with the kids.

A good little museum, with some small cabins and historic stuff. Combine it with the bighorn sheep museum for a good Dubois (doo-bois) stop

Well run Museum with lots of exhibits. Nice overall history of the area. The docent at the desk was helpful and they had all kinds of supplemental info so a traveler could go out and see the country.

The Dubois historical museum is very interesting. The main building is very informative on the town of Dubois and surrounding area, and has artifacts from that area. It also gives the history of the Dubois area. Outside the main building there is general material on the west, with small buildings exhibits like a schoolhouse, and a saddle shop and more. It was worth visiting.
