Lots of people do not know about this place. It's tucked in around old Midland, with trees and beautiful landscaping, it is a must stop. Let your children explore in the little town they have. Always have beautiful art on display.

The room where the murders took place is not open to the public. I don't know if this place is haunted. Art comes mostly from New Mexico. I did not see a lot from TX. Small place 5.00 to get in and you can spend about an hour to 2 hours there. Sunday evenings in the summer there is live music outside on the lawn. The lawn is decorated with sculptures and a pamphlet is provided to give details about each sculpture. They have a small children's museum also.

A little art museum hidden away in suburban Midland, housed in what used to be the infamous Turner mansion. There's about 4 big rooms of paintings and sculptures and that's it. You could breeze through the entire collection in 30 - 45 mins., tops. If you have little ones with you, be sure to check out the Childrens' Museum and the planetarium right outside.

We saw a dome movie at the planetarium about the return to the moon, and it was amazing. The kids had fun at the art museum, and the printmaking exhibit at the art museum was worth the visit.Great way to spend a Saturday in Midland.

It is a great museum for a town the size of Midland. It has a steady rotation of exhibits, most of which are really good. The facility hosts private showings that are well done and fun. It is a kids place as well as adults. Cost is cheap and you will enjoy an hour or so seeing things from someone else's perspective. Go.

Looking for something to do in Midland Texas? Well head on over to Missouri street just west of the downtown area with all the tall buildings and you will find the old Turner Mansion. 1705 W Missouri Street. Just a few blocks east of Garfield street you will see the large red brick museum, with its iron and brick fence around the front. The Museum is in the old parts of the house and stretch to the back new areas that have been added, to the west is the Childrens museum and a short walk more is the Blakmore Planetarium. http://www.museumsw.org They have different rotating exhibits from their own collection and have visiting shows all the time so its good to check back frequently. See their web page to see what is going on at present. The Planetarium is a great place to go and see a show about the stars and learn about the various things to see in the west texas night sky, they even have star parties out back on certain weekends where the local astronomy club set up their scopes and you can have a look. Through out the year they have various events, during the summer on sunday evenings they have "summer lawn concerts" i have included a picture from last weekend, just show up with a lawn chair or blanket and whatever you want to drink or eat and enjoy, its no cost. Then early in September they have Septemberfest. Where the grounds are filled with various booths filled with artists, potters, ceramicists, jewelers, photographers and such selling their one of a kind pieces. In the back by the planetarium is all the food and drink and a stage for some live entertainment. Its all very casual and there is a small fee to get in and you get an armband so you can come and go during the day if you like. They even open the planetarium and have short day shows of the dome. Its just just a fun weekend, very laid back. Then later in the year they have Christmas at the Mansion with lots of different events and in the old Stables building they have a train setup that is really neat to see. Just a nice place to go in the city.

My kids loved it here! We went to check it out and ended up staying for hours. The interactive light and sound exhibit was a big hit and everything inside was very engaging for young kids. They have a mini city set up where kids can pretend with all the plastic food/toys/dishes. There's a kid sized: Burger King, grocery store, bank, news station (kids can see themselves on TV), attic bedroom, playroom, kitchen, veterinarian office and more. My kids really loved dressing up in lab coats to help the sick stuffed toys in the vet's office and "shopping" in the market. Downstairs there's a large gated play area for kids under 2 years old. It's much smaller than other children's museums we've been to, but it was more than we expected. The price was very reasonable. Less than $10 for adults, kids were less than that and I think children 2 years and under were free. Prices are vague because that's just what I can remember. The only negative was the card reader at the ticket counter wasn't working and we had to wait 10 minutes while the employee tried to get it to work. We finally decided to pay cash so we could get in quicker, but didn't get a receipt. When we received our bank statement later we saw that we were still charged admission on our card. Other than that, it was a great time.

I love to take my grand kids. If you are going during the school year, try getting there at 11:45. The school tours will just be leaving and you will have some quiet time. If you go in summer just be prepared for a full house but it doesn't seem to bother the kids. The city stores are so much fun. Make sure you sit down and let them make you pretend pizza. The main themes change so there are different activities every time you go.

I can't believe they call this a museum. Dirty, boring and a waste of money. It has exibits that aren't even interactive and enjoyable for kids. It's almost like they are missing items. For example: the post office doesn't have anything for the kids to play with, drawers are nailed shut and there's nothing for the kids to play with. In the play store:The cash register is broken and much of the play food is dirty and some is torn and broken. The place could really use a fresh coat of paint and a vacuum and mop.

The Museum of the Southwest includes art from around the world. There are activities such as Septemberfest and Summer Lawn concerts. The children's building is full of activities for small children to enjoy in a hands on way .

My two year old daughter loves the children's museum. She would spend all day there if I let her, even though some of the exhibits are for older kids. There is a toddler room, and a giant sandbox that is outside, but covered with shade canopies and fenced around. You really can't beat the price, either. Not to mention that for just $50 you can get a family membership for a year. Love the planetarium, too.

Great place to visit if you have a couple of hours to kill. The Haley Library is right there too and the GHW Bush childhood home is close by. All 3 a nice way to knock off an afternoon.

There is a fine arts museum, planetarium, and children's museum. As a bonus just a few steps away is the Haley Memorial Library.A beautiful 5,000 sq. ft. historical home houses the fine arts museum. I found the building to be more interesting than its holdings. However there were two paintings that seemed extrodinary. Mike Lanier from Abilene, TX was showing "Hanna's Lace". Freemont Ellis painted "Harvest Time at Taos Pueblo" in 1928. That painting hangs near the entrance. Also one room contained a miniature book show. Little 4 inch book replicas of published complete works seems almost impossible.Large sculptures dot the landscaped grounds. There is no fee for the museum or the library. There is however a fee for the children's museum and planetarium.
