The Course was in great shape and the overseeding was excellent. The sand traps acutally now have real sand and no gravel on the East/ West courses. The food is very good and the coubhouse well attended and supplied. The marshallls were seen often and hte pace of play was very good for a scramble..Look at Groupon for discounts.

Never played at this course before. I went and the scenery is beautiful. There is no rough. There is fairway and there is desert. The desert isn't like sand...its like hard clay with tiny rocks. You can play out of it. The course is short...and I played from the tips. Most holes are 385 yards or less. Positioning is key. Just hit everything at the 150 yard marker and you'll score well. If you spray your driver, you'll be in the desert all day. You can find it most of the time but you may have a dry bush in front of you and you won't have an open shot to the green. Would play here again. It was about a 20 minute drive from the airport location but worth it. I shot 81...first time. Happy with that. Nice grille too.Keep it in the middle!

Ok I tried it once.......it was HOT! I would go back to play scrambles, but bang for your buck it is not! Im sure we will be back to play with friends as there are only so many courses in El paso.

Painted Dunes is an excellent desert golf course. I was impressed with the excellent conditions of the fairways and greens given the summer season and the drought that El Paso is experiencing. My wife and I rented clubs that were almost brand new and excellent quality. The course had 4 sets of tees making it a challenge for all skill levels. The greens fees and club rental fees were very reasonable and the staff was courteous, helpful, and friendly. It was a great golf experience and I would highly recommend Painted Dunes Desert Golf Course. (Of course it didn't hurt that I had a good back nine!)

I play golf here every Wednesday, and feel that it's the best priced Golf available in El Paso. My only complaint is that the beverage vendors don't service the Course very well.

I live nearby so I stopped in to ask about advertised lessons. I was told they didn't have anyone to give lessons at this time but they hadn't stopped advertising because they hoped to have someone in the future. I asked about renting clubs and trying it out because I do have a little experience I just wanted to learn more in depth. They only clubs they had to rent were one set of men's club for someone about 6'5. The supposed "pro" I talked to was rude and I got the idea it was because I was female. I wasn't too sure about that until it was suggested maybe I should ask my husband to help me, I told them I wasn't married, and he laughed and said "well this isn't a dating service then". Single women do golf, and it doesn't mean you are looking for a husband! I was very offended and asked for a manager who conveniently was not available then or any of the multiple times I called. I was suggest ladies staying away from there.

I'm a terrible golf player but those I played with pointed out that this course used to be one of the best in the Southwest. It was allowed to deteriorate but is now coming back to its former status

..Very cool spot to play if you just play one course in El Paso. Im not a great golfer, but enjoyed all the rabbits and other interesting wildlife running around. Really great "bang for your buc".

Good layout, nice pro shop, and reasonable prices. It can get crowded during the summer weekend period. A tee time is def. reccommended.

Very good shape and speed of play. The tourney was fun and the food good.

Excellent golf course and usually in beautiful shape. Good value also. Beautifull view and enjoyable fairways. Course has a great restaurant and courteous staff in the pro shop. I can't wait to go back and have a wonderful day.

With the exception of Butterfield, Painted Dunes is probably the best course in El Paso, and green fee's will cost you $15-$30 less than Butterfield. (Butterfield rates vary depending on where you live) In additon to that, having 27 holes at your disposal gives you a little more variety, and every time you play, you typically will experience a different order of holes. The fairways are easily the best kept in town, and at first glance one might not even think they are real grass as they seem to lush for El Paso. The greens are equally well maintained, although every once in a while a few holes will go under repair or reseeding, but it's only a minor inconvenience. Some people I talk to think their pro shop staff can be rude, but I have never experienced this, and I think if you show up looking respectable they will be pleasant. Anyone from locals to out of towners who like golf absolutely have to give Painted Dunes a try. $18 twilight fees including a cart can't be beat.

Going in winter isn't all that bad. The temperature here in El Paso is around 65 degrees in the afternoon so it was a nice January golf outing. As for the course ...The club house is pretty average with an above average food area. Although there isn't much variety, the food isn't all that bad, but still pretty expensive. The course was OK, although I found it pretty difficult. There aren't many water hazards (imagine that), but there are plenty of sand traps and pits/depressions which hug the fairway throughout. If you're not the best golfer, like myself, this can be difficult, but because there aren't a lot of trees and bushes you won't have a hard time finding your ball most of the time. One downer that I have to tell you about is the amount of manure on the tee boxes. The back nine was covered in manure, and it was a little gross/different. Not sure if this is commonplace around here, but never experienced that back in IL/MO. Only other gross thing was rabbit corpses due to wolves that are around at night (you'll see rabbits all over the course. The golf carts were nice and had GPS on them. They told you how far to the green/hole/bunkers and markers on the course from the current cart location.I found it nice, but it was pretty expensive. I paid $30 for greens fees. A round of 18 with cart will cost you $40+ and that is if you have your clubs, balls, tees, etc. I can't rate this against other courses as I am yet to go.

I played the North and East Course on a Monday morning. It was really reasonable, 35 to ride and 25 to rent new Taylor Made Clubs. It's a beautiful course with the Franklin Mountains in the background (rated by Golf Digest) and only about 15 minutes from downtown El Paso. The carts have a GPS on them and show you exactly how many yards away you are.We played 18 holes in 3:45 minutes, play is fast which is helpful!North Course is fairly easy.East Course is a lot harder. Lots of desert hazards.Overall I would highly recommend this course to anyone looking to play while in El Paso.
