My husband and I arrived in town in the late afternoon, checked into our hotel and then decided to go and see what the municipal golf course was like. We had looked at it on the internet, but it did not look impressive. The internet can be VERY misleading as when we got there, the course looked fine. It was about 4:30pm and we decided to go ahead and play as it did not look like there were too many people there at this time (however later on, there were a LOT of players on the course). We rented a cart and a cooler (you can rent them for a $10 refundable deposit) got our drinks and ice and set off. We were very surprised because the course was kept up quite nicely. The hazards were set up to be just difficult enough for us. The greens were very well kept and spongy on some holes but others were hard as a rock. There was a nice mix of long fairways and short so that it gave you a bit of a break. It was quite warm that day, but we worked through it. On hole #7, BEWARE!!!!!! This hole actually is partially shared by the driving range! Not sure I would design it that way but no one was driving any balls, thank God! There is no net so you really need to make sure to look and see if there is anyone on the driving range! Overall, this course is very nice (and as I said in my title) it does not get the respect that it really deserves on the golf sites. I don't think that the city advertises this treasure as it should. Green fees are $17 and a cart is $20 for 2 people. Very inexpensive for what you get (18 holes).I have to say that when we got through (we skipped 18 as there was a back up of players), the club house was closed so there was no way to return the cart key or cooler. We had to go back the next morning to return the cart key and cooler (and receive our $10 deposit back). They must be very trusting here! We really liked this course and will play it again if we go back to Uvalde.
