I realize that this is how people lived when my parents were young. Everything was simpler then, but work was harder. Judging by the size of the beds people were smaller than they are now. I was impressed by the size of the sweet potatoes. One weighed seven pounds. That would feed a lot of people.

Saw how they have replicated the old time farm living. A worthwhile experience. They were cooking up a meal of onions, peppers, sausages, mouth watering. Staff dressed old fashioned and were knowledgeable.

Entrance to this site is free and everyone is welcome! Stop at the visitor center for the state and national park to receive your receipt (for your windshield) and then stop in. Living history takes you back in time to the late 1880s where there's no electricity or running water. Lots of farm animals including cows, sheep, horses, turkeys, chickens, etc. Sara was very helpful in explaining the farm kitchen, how to make cheeses, yogurts, etc., and showed us the lunch she was preparing for all employees/volunteers-looked delicious! Yes, it was cooked over a wood-fired stove. Such knowledge of historical cooking in her 20s. I'm envious!Fun for the whole family.

Enjoyed the self tour of the Living History Farm. We got to watch the farm animals, tour the house and out buildings at our leisure. The woman there (dressed in period costume) gave us an informative insight into the daily and weekly duties in the kitchen and home during the period. It was taking a step back in time.

This Farmstead Tour can be part of the historic tour of the LBJ property and Texas White House. The home is across the river from the Johnson property and run by the State of Texas. It gives an interesting insight into what it was like to settle in Texas in the mid 1800's.

This is a great activity for anyone who enjoys historical American farm life and architecture. This is a working farm where you can see people in period costume can foods, smoke meats, tend to chickens, turkeys, cattle, pigs and goats. It offers an up-close experience. Thoroughly loved it!Great for children and adults alike! It's unfortunate this attraction is hard to find in TripAdvisor. A lot of people do the LBJ National Park (ranch) tour and don't mention or miss this farm which is located near the visitor center.

Our grandkids loved visiting here... buildings and farm just as they were years ago and demonstrated by volunteers who are dressed in early 20th century clothes. All the food is from the farm - milk, eggs, produce, and meat. I loved the old laundry building, the tiny kitchen with wood burning stove. The kids loved the farm animals and all the old farm equipment. Well worth a visit!
