The Mineola historical museum, located in the old post office, was a real surprise. Very broad scope of displays from early Mineola, WWI, WW II, Mineola High School, the history of railroads that help build Mineola, and biographical exhibits on local celebrities.

One of our class reunion activities was to visit this museum during Homecoming Week. We had a blast! We ALL remembered the Select Theater (exhibit) even down to the actual carpet and red plush seats. The were LOTS of yearbooks, plus pictures from Mineola's history, band and other uniforms, on exhibit, as well as a large railroad room. A history of Mineola was presented in such an enjoyable way. The kids, present, probably enjoyed the old phones the most. They could actually 'ring' each other up. We lingered and lingered because there was so much to see and we were having such a fun trip down memory lane. Well trained docents, sometimes in costume, answered questions and led us through all the exhibits. The museum building is the old post office and there were many 'secrets' revealed. I heard the same sentence over and over, "Oh my gosh, look at this!" This wonderful museum offers a special surprise at Christmas! Admission is free, but I was pleasantly surprised how many of my fellow classmates made a donation. This museum would appeal to those from Mineola as well as those just visiting.
