A really neat little museum. Amazing how such a little museum can exhibit such an enormous quantity of barbed wire, didn’t know there were so many species and so much developments during the years way back from 1800s till now; just awesome! And you probably think what's there to like about barbed wire. Well, more fascinating than you think and of course the ambiance of suce a little museum on route 66! Also a nice route 66 exhibition, you get a good picture of how it was when the old route was in full use, and also how difficult life was back then in that area (Panhandle). Even articles in Dutch about the route 66 fanclub in the Netherlands who visited the museum (very nice for us Dutch guys). A must see when you travel the route 66 or when you’re nearby (and chat with the nice lady of the museum who can tell you so much more about it).

A museum. .. about barbed wire? Yes! This is an amazing little (free!) place filled with hundreds of examples of the 'way the West was tamed'. The people who run it have a passion for wire. If you are passing through on Route 66, You Must Go!

The plan was visiting the Route 66 museum. When we saw the small museum with 2 giant balls and the sign "Tribute to Barbed Wire" we didn't know what to expect. Inside the museum you will be surprised by the big collection of barbed wire. You will never realize how big the roll of barbed wire was in the history of the local area. There are also old tools and exhibition of dust ball and some artwork made from barbed wire. It's very interesting and informative. The corner of route 66 collection is small but shows all about route 66 of this area. The staff are very vriendly. The museum is free but donation is always welcome. When you're on the road passing Mc.Clean, don't forget to stop at this museum.

Great place to stop and visit to find out more about the area and the historical settlement in this area and the panhandle of Texas in general. Great photos and artifacts. The best resource is the people who work here! Enjoy your visit.

Amazing free museum in McLean, TX. It is a huge place with Route 66 memorabillia, fantastic Dust Bowl photos and an unbelievable collection of barbed wire. It is fascinating to see so many different styles, uses, etc. of barbed wire. Even WWII historical uses. Creative uses, too. The docent was really nice. Try to spend time here on your Route 66 travels.

A barbed wire museum does not sound as something the average person would want to visit but in this case I would recommend it strongly. The whole setup is very well done and I never saw so much different barbed wire in one place. I never realized there were that many different sorts but then again I never realized there were people collecting this stuff! Apart from the barbed wire I would very strongly recommend that you visit their exhibit about the dustbowl days. All in all well worth the time!

Very educational for past and present life in the area. Some of the things made from barbed wire are incredible.

This is the same as the Devil's Rope Museum -- fantastic!!!! You must stop and see this free museum. It is a combination of branding, barbed wire, Route 66 and the Dust Bowl all wrapped into one. The volunteer that was there the day we arrived is a native of McLean and had wonderful stories about the town before and after Interstate 40 changed life as she knew it. Please don't pass this one up.
