A good friend and client of mine advised me and wife to visit this winery since he grows grapes for this winery. The wines are top notch with an emphasis on single varietals and sustainable production processes. Their Tannat and Syrahs are world class and our favorites. After our first visit we become wine club members and joined their 1840 club which is their best reds. I've been to many wineries throughout TX and this is a first class single varietal experience that most TX wineries cannot replicate. Salute TX Wine!

This is our favorite winery in the area. We have been coming here almost since they opened the tasting room. Great wines and a great group of people. There is live music some weekends.

My wife and I stopped at Bending Branch on our visit to Comfort this fall. We were tipped to go there by folks at Rose Hill Manor and Perdenales Cellars (other reviews!) and to ask for Susie. Great advice. Susie was the perfect winery host, pouring very good wines, and making us feel right at home in the fascinating little town of Comfort. Highly recommended for the wine, the hospitality and the great introduction to Comfort.

Bending Branch Winery was a completely awesome experience! The owners of this vineyard/winery display such passion for the creation of excellent wine, and have a personal goal of caring for their vines in the most organic process as possible. This winery has been in existence since 2009, but only open to the public for the last 3 years. They have a total of 56 acres of land with 20 of that being planted vineyards of 17 different varietals. They produce about 5,200 cases/year and focus on varietals that will grow well in the unique Texas terroir. One of their signature grapes for this winery is the Tannat, and was their 1st estate grown wine, taking “Best Wine in Texas”! Once we tasted this wine, all of the “winers” unanimously agreed! Delicious! This stop was definitely one of our favorites on this trail and we would highly recommend that you include this stop on your created trail! Visited Dec 2013.

A lovely little winery off the beating path in Comfort Texas. Delightful wines and atmosphere. We felt as though we were V.I.P.s . Staff treated us like we were family. Seating outside on a lovely terrace with beautiful hill country scenery. Worth the trip.

The Bending Branch tasting room has nice wine choices and a comfortable room and exterior patios to enjoy a glass or a bottle. The serving staff is friendly, joyful and knowledgeable. We spent two hours on the property visiting with the staff and other guests.

A little difficult to get to, but worth the drive. $10 tasting, 6 wines I think. If you buy 2 bottles then they knock off 2 tasting costs. Live music today (Saturday), but we didn't stick around because of the heat. Only one place to sit down in the a/c tasting room - that's the only thing I could say negative. Nice porch to enjoy a bottle - but again, too hot today. If you had to choose between Singing Water and Bending Branch, no brainer.... Choose Bending Branch!

Bending Branch continues to produce amazing TX wines. Their '12 TX Tannat and their '12 Old Vine Syrah are both superb and are must-haves. I was a lil saddened to see they removed the bar seating in the tasting room - hence the 4 stars vice 5. However, I'm a very happy club member - they take great care of my shipments and orders, and they produce thrilling product.

I’d read a bit about this place and most of what I’d read was very positive. We’d tried Tannat a few years ago down in Uruguay and loved it, so I was eager to try theirs. Loved EVERYTHING I had! They had one white wine (a Vermintino) but everything else was red. This was certainly the 1st time I bought a bottle of every single wine I tried on a tasting menu, and even got 2 bottles of some. Our server Stephen was very knowledgeable, engaging, and understood that he was there to sell me wine, not just a tasting. He actually didn’t have one of the reds there (Souzao) at the winery and suggested we go down to the tasting room in town to try it. We did and bought a bottle of that too. It was nice to try both the 2010 and the 2011 Tannat and compare/contrast. We also tasted a great Petite Sirah as well as a nice Tempranillo. All of the reds were nice to drink now, but could also easily be laid down for a couple of years and improve. Our tasting fees were comped with a 2 bottle purchase which was very easy to do seeing as how we bought everything. Definitely one to keep on my list when I’m in the area.

Not what I expected. I went on Sunday, May 25, 2014. I arrived and the place was somewhat busy. What appeared to be a nice gentleman proceeded to talk to me about the wine tasting. After my first tasting he walked away to help someone else and didn't say anything to me. I know I should have left at this point but my friend drove us from Von Ormy and it did take us a while to get there with the traffic. After waiting a while a nice lady who works there came up to me and noticed that the gentleman was assisting someone else and she asked me if he was returning. After 5 more minutes she assisted me with the remainder of the wine tasting. She was very nice and explained the different wines to me. I did purchase a bottle of Picpoul Blanc. I thanked the lady for being so kind to help me. Needless to say I felt the gentleman was rude by walking away to assist someone else.

Really outstanding wine, nice staff, great musician, Stephen Morris. This is right outside Comfort and rivals Napa in California. Have purchased wine by the glass and by the bottle it was so good. They, also, have a great selection of gourmet food and gifts, which I purchased, too! Definitely, a day trip from San Antonio or Fredericksburg. Have visited the store in Comfort and the winery.

The Bending Branch Winery is an organic winery located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The winery's commitment to organic growing, minimal impact on the environment, recycling, green business and education is outstanding in its own right. Couple that with the production of award winning wines and you have a true gem of Texas.

Although a relatively new winery, in my opinion Bending Branch Winery is the premier winery in Texas. Located on a beautiful patch of land just outside of Comfort, Bending Branch winery is making some of the best wines in Texas. The tasting room at the winery is open Thursday through Sunday. (They also have a new tasting room on High Street in Comfort.)Dr. Bob Young and his son-in-law John Rivenbaugh have teamed up to show that, although difficult, it is possible to produce great wines in Texas. Their concept departs from the model used by most wineries in the Hill Country of simply providing grape varietals that people are familiar with from California regardless of their suitability to Texas. While other wineries are cranking out Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and sweet reds, Bending Branch has had a longstanding program to find noble grape varieties that are best suited to Texas soils and climate. This has lead to their signature Tannat and Picpuol Blanc wines. Bending Branch was the first Winery in Texas to produce Tannat wines in quantity. Other great wines include Tempranillo and Petite Sirah. Look for some great red wines from grapes that you are not familiar with such as wine made from the Souzau grape from Portugal. If you take wine seriously and have been less than impressed with Texas wines in the past, this is a winery that you should go out of your way to visit. Given the dedication of the owners to making quality wines, the wines at Bending Branch will only get better.

Who outside of, perhaps, the Central Texas area has ever heard of the small town of Comfort, TX? However, you're very likely going to start hearing a lot more about it, if for no other reason than Bending Branch Winery is located just west of town (with a new [October 2013] tasting room "downtown"; the original tasting room is also open at the winery, located about three miles SW of Comfort just off Hwy 27 SW. (Comfort's downtown, although only a few blocks long, is in itself charming and also well worth the visit.)Bending Branch is gaining lots of attention for its fantastic wines, including a recent (and rare) Double Gold award granted for its 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon (Newsom Vineyards, Texas High Plains AVA) at the 2013 San Francisco Wine Competition. Folks, that a double gold awarded to a Cabernet Sauvignon from Texas in the very heartland of California "Cab Country". Quite an accomplishment. Bending Branch's other wines are equally worthy, including their line of several Tannats, Picpoul (if available, be sure to try their Picpoul aged in bourbon barrels - truly unique), Petite Syrah, the Chloe blend, and others. Some grapes come from the Paso Robles area in Calfornia, while most wines are made from grapes grown either on the estate or contracted from commercial growers in the State of Texas (like Newsom, which grew the grapes for the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon). The property itself is charming and the tasting room is very friendly (you ARE in the middle of Texas!). Lots of people are wandering up I-10 from San Antonio or working their way along the Texas Hill Country Wine Trail from Fredericksburg through Kerrville to find Bending Branch, so be sure to seek out this winery in your travels through Central Texas. You WILL NOT be sorry and, if you're not already familiar with quality Texas wines, probably very pleasantly surprised!(It should also be noted that Bending Branch makes its wines using sustainable agricultural practices, so while making great wines, they're also being excellent stewards of the land.)

Pulling in between two brick pillars, one sees a small stone tasting room with a lovely outdoor deck space. The tasting room overlooks a small valley property outside Comfort, TX, a tiny unincorporated town near San Antonio. The winery is certified totally organic due to Dr. Bob Young's and John Rivenbaugh's meticulous attention to every detail of making wine. They have fashioned some delicious wines not usually found in Texas - Picpoul Blanc and Tannat. Other wines include a refreshing white, Comfortage, Cabernet and my personal favorite, Petit Syrah as well as a unique Port. The tasting room staff are knowledgeable and kind to novice wine drinkers and to wine aficionados. The owners are often on site - Dr. Bob and Brenda Young - he is a wine maker, and she is the creative director. Their daughter, Ally, and her husband, John are also involved. Chloe and Jackson are the beloved grandkids who zip in, out and about the property.Bending Branch hosts many musical concerts and special events such as Derby Day and a tennis benefit for the local Boys and Girls Club.Drive outside Comfort a few miles to enjoy their delicious wines. One can also stop on High Street at The Branch on High for a tasting! Enjoy their wine and enjoy your time in Comfort, a bit of heaven in the Hill Country!
