We sampled 6 wines while we were at the winery. There were 3 whites, 2 reds, and then a delicious spiced dessert wine. Our wine pourer was named Allison. She was fantastic. We shared stories and she was very knowledgable about all of the different wines. It was my first time sampling wine and she made me feel very comfortable and explained how to swirl and smell the different wines. It was a very relaxed and pleasant atmosphere and we all left very happy!

At The Williamsburg Winery, we take feedback from our guests very seriously. All of our guests are welcomed and valued and should be made to feel so. If we failed to deliver that feeling to these guests, we deeply regret it. We have spoken to the tour guide in question, who has made this same comment on his tour for many years - it is intended to be a response to why we don't use screw caps on our wines. We have, however, asked him to refrain from using this particular example. He was horrified to realize he may unwittingly have caused offense. We hope these guests will come back to the winery and give us the opportunity to offer them outstanding customer service.

My boyfriend and I went on a wine tour and tasting here and had a wonderful time! There was a wide variety of wines at the tasting, and we found several that we enjoyed quite a lot. We went home with a bottle that we weren't expecting to buy. Allison, our tour guide, was very forthcoming with information regarding wines, and extremely enthusiastic. She answered our questions with great analogies and we learned more about wine than we thought we would. Definitely try to get her as a tour guide!

Visited on a Monday for the reserve wine tasting and loved it! Jack was a great tour guide. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Got to try several wines and found a new favorite! I would return.

Short and sweet tour! The guide was nice and knowledgable. Cheese squares and crackers with the wine. Yes! The tavern next door is a good place to grab lunch.

Our daughter and son-in-law were visiting our home from Seattle, so we decided to drive about an hour to visit the winery on Valentine's Day. Unfortunately, by the time we got there, the tours were sold out! We purchased wine tastings for $8, and did enjoy the selections. As well, we received the tasting glasses to take home. We would have liked to have taken the tour but we were not disappointed in the visit.

We wanted to do something different for us for Valentine's Day, so we went for a winery tour, tasting, and lunch. The tour was informative and it was interesting to learn some of the old and new methods used in the winemaking process. The wine tasting was also informative and they provided a paper describing each wine and a pencil, so you could make notes for preferences. I thought the wine selection for the tasting was heavy on heavier wines, and I am a light-sweet wino! After the tasting we went for lunch. We were asked whether we had reservations, but when my husband called, he was told that they did not take reservations for two. There was a table available, but two or three couples who came in after us were told that there was about a 40-minute wait. Lunch was simple but tasty: a turkey sandwich on a baguette and a salad of mixed greens. Lunch also included a wine choice and a cookie. Service was quick and friendly. We will go back with friends. It was a nice way to spend a couple of hours, and it would be great on a really hot summer day because the wine cellar is cool.

This is a really nice winery, it's easy to find although the sign when you get there doesn't jump out and it's easy to drive by the gate then realize you are there. You enter into the main building which has a wine store and a gift store. We were able to go straight on the tour which starts with a video telling you about the history of the winery and then your tour guide takes you into the function hall which has neat fireplaces bought over from a french chateau and restored. Then you head downstairs to the cellar. There are 3 types of barrel that she tells you all about and then you go past the reserve cellar. (There is a separate tour that spends a couple of hours here with a more superior wine tasting). Next is the bottling room and she explains the machines and the process in detail and then there is a white wine cellar and the stainless steel drums. You end up in the tasting room and different days offer different wines. We tried 3 white, 3 red and a sweet white. We also got to keep our glass. There were a couple of wines we did not like at all but overall there were some nice wines and we bought 3.We then headed to the building opposite Gabriel Archers Tavern for lunch - see separate review. We would stop by if passing and buy wine again. Plenty of parking.

So, it's not Napa, nor the French wine country, however, this quaint out of the way winery in Virginia is a pleasant experience. We opted for the premium wine tour (advance reservations required), at $36 / person. Our host was Bob - knowledgeable, friendly and funny. An informative tour of the winery, followed by a sit down tasting and discussion of 10 of their premium wines. The premium tours are limited in size (ours was 12), so the make up and friendliness of the group may impact your experience. Our group was relaxed, talkative and funny. The tasting is held in their cellar - it's 56 degrees, so dress warmly. The tasting includes a small selection of cheese and crackers - not gourmet, however, enough to get a few morsels in between wine selections. The whole experience lasts about 2 1/2 hours - so plan to relax and enjoy - be patient. Ask for Bob.

This place lives off its name not its wine sorry but the wine wasn't great nor the charge .it is like any other winery no big deal except the name .I thought it was expensive and a tourist trap so don't go unless you are someone's guest or it is free !

We have visited our share of wineries and I was reluctant to do one of the tours as I usually find that the guests just want to get some free wine and aren't really serious. We opted for the premium tour and there were just four of us plus Bob the tour leader. The young couple with us were fairly new to the wine world and Bob went out of his way to make them comfortable. We tasted 10 wines and were impressed with the variety and quality of the selection. Dress warmly as the tasting room is understandably chilly.

Visited the winery with my two sister and two nieces as a girls day trip. The tour of the winery was very informative and we got to see some artifacts from the winery early years. The wine was good and we got to keep our glass.

Since we were short on time but wanted to check out the wines anyway, we choose to do a wine tasting and skip the tour. The gentleman running the tasting was very knowledgeable and I actually learned a thing or two. The wine tasting also included a much heavier poor then I am used to which was nice, however this could have been due to the gentleman's technique and not the winery's standard. The wine was good and the prices were reasonable.

I attended a family wedding here recently and had to share what a wonderful venue this was for the wedding. It was charming and rustic but also elegant. The ceremony, dinner and dancing was all in a single room (that is not always the case). I thought it was perfect and easy for everyone attending. The space was well laid out. The wine selection was wonderful. Everyone had a great time - just think they should light the long entry way a little bit.

My favorite winery in this area. If you prefer "real" wines this is the one for you. Theravada great selection of reds and whites. Not just sweets like most southern wineries.
