Nice small museum experience highlighting the second wife of President Wilson. There is no admission charge but has an opportunity for donation. Nice small town opportunity.

My wife and I stopped here for the night in route to Asheville, NC. We wanted a nice hotel and something other than a chain hotel. What we found in Bolling Wison was way better than expected in a small town. It was a renovated bank building and with first class hospitality, a beautiful room with old hardwood floors and a nice bed with luxurious linens and duvet. And, a spacious well lit bathroom with a large walk in shower and beautiful shower head. There is a very good restaurant located in the hotel with a nice bar and relaxing ambiance.

Did you know Edith Bolling Wilson's birthplace and museum is directly across the street from the Bolling Wilson Hotel? I love visiting the museum and learning about Mrs. Wilson's young life. I learn something new every time I go.

Thank you for visiting Mrs. Wilson's birthplace and childhood home in historic Downtown Wytheville. Please come again as the museum updates its exhibits of new Bolling portraits dating back to the 1600's. Beginning November 12th, The Bolling Wilson Hotel will be open for guests. And, of course, visit Skeeter's for a "World Famous Hotdog!"

We are glad you enjoyed the museum's media presentation, "From Wytheville to the White House." On another visit, we hope you can tour the Bolling Home where you will be lead through each room hearing the story of what life was like for the Bollings from 1866-1899. Again, thank you and come back!

Thank you for your kind email after visiting the birthplace and childhood home of Edith Bolling Wilson. Mrs. Wilson story is so interesting and we are pleased that you enjoyed your visit. As you shared in your review, the Bolling Home is in need of repair and we hope to have funds in place for renovation of the home in the future. The Bolling Home is open for "hard hat" tours April - October in its present condition and we hope you will plan to visit in 2015 to tour the home that shaped the early life of Mrs.. Wilson and prepared her for challenges she would face as First Lady. And again, thank you for visiting the Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Museum!

The Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Museum is one of the very few museums in the country dedicated to a First Lady, and it just might be the ONLY museum in the country that is housed in the same building where that First Lady was born. The one-room museum is packed with lots of historical artifacts belonging to and used be the First Lady of the United States during her life in Wytheville and Washington, D.C. The museum employees do a great job of telling her interesting history which dates back to Pocahontas. It is a small stop, but a must-see attraction on Main Street in downtown Wytheville, Virginia! I recently visited the Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Museum with my mom as we were on our annual trip to the area.I found this museum pretty interesting, especially since we were the only two in the museum and had a guide dedicated to us. I learned some interesting facts about someone I otherwise would have had no clue about. Eleanor Roosevelt always seems to get the attention as the most progressive First Lady, but I think Edit Bolling Wilson is right there up with her. She was very involved, and her ideas led to practices that are still around today, like the White House Press Pool. Never know what you're going to find out. This museum is just basically one large room as you'll see from the pictures. On display are many family artifacts. The museum is on the ground floor of the house in which she was born. Upstairs, on the main living floor, they are currently in the slow progress of a renovation project which will allow the public to view where her family spent its time; currently there is not much to see, but our guide did offer a "hard hat" tour of this floor for $5. I thought I'd wait until it's done; so I did not participate in this. After the guide gives a brief overview of Mrs. Wilson's life, you are free to look through the exhibits at your leisure and take flash-free photography. This museum has a "nook" where you can buy gifts; but my only complaint about this is that there is nothing specific to Mrs. Wilson that you can buy here. There are fancy pins, that are stuck to a card that says the museum's name, but there's no connection to the Mrs. Wilson's history. There was a recipe book, but it contained recipes that folks made to celebrate in modern times; not during Mrs. Wilson's time. There are a few books for sale, but they are used and over-priced; but understandably so, they are ones that are probably hard to find on the Wilson's. No big deal in retrospect, as I usually don't buy souvenirs anyway, but just a thought. There is no set fee for this museum, but donations are encouraged and there is a place by the door, inside, where you can place your money.Overall, very interesting stop, especially if you like historical stops!A few other ideas in the area:*Skeeter's hot dogs - I didn't stop here since I'm vegan, but everyone was raving about it!*Hannah's Attic - antique and country gift store, walking distance at 165 Tazewell St, Wytheville, VA 24382; (276) 227-0440*Big Walker Mountain Lookout - not a far drive from here; beautiful views on clear day*Beagle Ridge Herb Farm - a bit of a drive, mostly on gravel roads from here; but defiitely worth looking up*Great Lakes to Florida Highway Museum - in Wytheville, and nearby. Must go to the Wytheville Visitor's Center first; definitely worth the stop; very interesting!

A must see when traveling major Interstate Highways I-81 and I-77 through Virginia southwest....get off the Interstate and see the real America! Only one of a few First Lady birthplaces and museums in the U.S.

Wytheville is blessed to have this museum. They have great owners and staff. The schools love to come here for touring along with their parents, chaperones, teachers, etc.

Sadly, I cannot remember her name, but our curator had great stories and was very engaging. It was very apparent that she took great pride in her job. What was an unassuming stop during our trip downtown Wytheville, turned in to a treasure of a find. Even if you are not a history buff, stop in to the Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Museum!

We visited the Edith Bolling Wilson Museum in Wytheville, Va., on July 23, 2013, and enjoyed seeing her personal possessions beautifully displayed on the first floor. Then Jeremy Miller treated us to a special tour of the second-floor home where Edith grew up with by her large family. It was so interesting to walk through her childhood surroundings still in their original state from 1910 when Wytheville itself was very small. Renovation of Edith Wilson's home is just beginning at a time of renewal for the town itself. Everywhere we looked, storefronts were coming alive. It's an exciting place, and the crown jewel is the Edith Bolling Wilson Museum. Be sure to see it, donate to help the restoration, and look closely, because the next time you go, everything may be different. We felt lucky to "be in on the ground floor" where we could feel the energy of Edith's family surrounding us! Thank you for a special time - and we will return.. Annie and Mack Rowe, Madison, Va.

Excellent small home town museum. Wonderful curator with wonderful stories about our first lady! If you want to see a ground up view of how museums start with a personal touch, do not miss this stop!

Walk through the first floor of Edith Bolling Wilson's birthday and it is easy to see why this museum devoted to this influential, controversial, and politically significant First Lady of the United States. The right side is dedicated to her family and upbrnging, and the left side to her life with President Wilson. They occationally offer a "Hard Hat" Tour of the upstairs living quarters which I missed and am certain I would have found very interesting. The curator has taken a very personal interest in Edith Bolling Wilson and has an indepth knowledge of her life. This extra knowledge made Ms. Bolling come alive for me! I highly recommend taking the time to visit this free museum, talking with it's founder and supporting the museum.

Historically detailed account of Mrs. Wilson's life and activities and the First Lady. Very interesting and informative.
