Lovely and passionate people fill the Copper Fox Distillery and provide regular tours that really put you in the middle of their whisky distilling process. Having gone on a handful of brewery and distillery tours before, this was one of my favorites because of the serene setting around the distillery and the clearly thoughtful way they approach their craft. Oh, and the chance to taste some amazing whiskys.

I'm a lover of Bourbon and Whiskey -- my wife is not -- however we both loved our visit to Copper Fox Distillery. During the weekend they run tours every half-hour by folks who actually work there and know a lot about how to make some seriously good tasting stuff!Copper Fox is a small hand-crafted distillery -- so you are able to see the entire process up close and personal in a way that is very fascinating. You start learning how they malt their own grains -- by hand! You see how they add flavor to that malted grain using a huge smoker and then you get to see how the mash is made and the fermenting process happens. When we were there they had just started transferring mash to a fermentation tank and we got to taste the mash (think a sweet oatmeal taste). We also got to see the fermentation in process and got a surprise in how potent that CO2 can be when you stick your head over the fermentation tank! The distilling process looked fascinating with the equipment looking almost antiquish and beautiful in a way. The room where it is put into barrels to age was very cool -- it made you want to climb around in the racks and do a little "tasting" of your own. When the tour is over you have the opportunity to do a tasting at a very reasonable $7 per person -- it was fun to taste and compare the various varities distilled right there. We spent a little over an hour there and had a wonderful time and took home some fun treats to share with friends!

My wife and I visited Copper Fox Distillery in Sperryville, Virginia. We were warmly greeted by the smiling staff. We had a very interesting tour of the facility, with all that malt and barley, we do understand why they have two cats to keep the rodents away! The smell of apple wood roasted malt is great. We tasted the 1797 Belle Grove Whiskey which is excellent, but my favorite is their 96 Proof Single Malt Whisky (spelled à la Scot). It is really an American Scotch, a delicious reinterpretation of what a Scottish immigrant may have created after landing in Virginia 400 years ago. It is better than many barrel aged Whisky or Whiskey!I bought a bottle of the singe barrel.I understand they will be moving to Williamsburg, where they will get many time the exposure they have here in Perryville, but the great news is that their original factory will remain in operation.A well-deserved 5 star for the people and their magnificent products.

You will see (for FREE) the whole cycle of production in this distillery. Small enough to feel intimate, but large enough that you are not feeling like you are in someone's house. Handful of employees, laid back, will explain as much as you are curious to learn. See the barley malting, smoking room, stills, vats, barrels. Tasting (cost there) and it's a fine hootch, by the way! Artisan feel to the whole place. Check out the artists galleries next door too.

We toured Copperfox one weekend while visiting Luray. The tour was around 45 mins. We didn't know a lot about whiskey distilling and the tour information was a little over our heads but it was still cool to see the process. The folks running the place are very nice and answered all of our questions. There is a taking for only seven bucks. Try the single malt whiskey!

My wife and I visited The Copper Fox and had a great time. The free tour was excellent. The man giving the tour did a great job explaining to us just how they make their whiskey. Their Rye whiskey is fantastic and I love the Gin that they also make.

This family-owned and operated distillery is worth a stop. The tour is fun and educational. Love the whiskey and gin. Very high quality.

We just happened upon this distillery on our way to a winery. What luck! We had a great tour - learned a lot about the distilling process and asked A LOT of questions which were all answered (some with a lot of humor!). There is a tasting available at the end (minor fee) and it was worth it. I actually found a whiskey that I liked. We ended up with several bottles that we have given to friends and relatives - they all have asked for more! Great place to stop even if you aren't a whiskey (or bourbon or gin) drinker!

We first visited Copper Fox 6 years ago and almost did not stop as it was out in the middle of no where. Returning to the area to visit some wineries, we decided to try to find again. We were pleasantly surprised that it has added a few businesses around it, like a art shop, antique shop and Mexican Cantina. The coolest thing is that the distillery tour is still free, still the most informative tour we've experienced and that the cat is still sleeping in the same chair! (you will have to visit to get it:) Love the single malt and now they have added a few other "flavors". (Please don't get so big you loose your charm!) Don't miss a tour and tasting if you are even close to the area. Even if you do not drink scotch, whisky or bourbon, you will appreciate the art of what they are doing.

A very intimate and informative tour. The distillery has been open nine years and is basically family run and constantly improving their product, the process is very hands on, I came away with a much more informed understanding of the process. Having toured the big distillery's (a much more sterile tour) made me really appreciate this tour. I also loved the uniqueness of their aging barrel with grain alcohol. Amazing quality.

Fancy. There's lots of good wineries in the area, and throughout central Virginia, but a whiskey distillery is a unique thing- don't pass it up, it's a heck of an experience, doesn't take awful long, and you can taste test a variety of fine whiskies.

We really enjoyed our tour of the distillery...Jason was our guide and he is an awesome fount of knowledge regarding distilling spirits. The tour is free, but be prepared to buy a bottle before leaving, once you see and smell the quality you will just have to own a bottle. Copper Fox may become my go to whisky. Dont pass up visiting this small distillery you will enjoy every moment of it.

Went here thinking it was something my husband would enjoy. Thought I would just be along for the ride. The owner gave us a personal tour which was very enlightening. Never knew making whiskey was such an art. Especially like the story of the spirits for the angels and how he proposed to his wife. This place is a little hard to find but well worth an hour of your time. If in the area, DO NOT MISS!

I am more of a wine drinker if that, but Copper Fox was recommended by Tom at Killahevlin B&B where we were staying. The young man who gave us the tour was personable as well as informative. Glad I went.
