Our kids recently did a week long summer camp. They absolutely loved it and are already talking about going back again next year. We are amazed that 9 & 11 years olds would have so much fun while learning about history!!! Randy is awesome! Thanks for giving our kids such a wonderful week of summer.

Excellent tour of this wonderful old colonial mansion by HistoricalSociety member. Beautiful grounds and wonderful old trees on property.

I had no idea what to expect, but the Ker Place was a great surprise and a very pleasant one. The artwork alone was well worth the visit. Spent nearly an hour and a half touring the house and marveling at its contents. This is a must visit attraction and should be considered a destination. I am looking forward to a return visit.

If one has an interest in local history, a visit to this place is recommended. The house is very handsome and there are interesting exhibits upstairs. The volunteer docents are usually very gracious and welcoming.

A beautiful house and nice grounds in an interesting little town. If you find yourself in the vicinity, Ker Place and the interesting little town of Onancock are worth a visit. Some nice stores and galleries and good restaurants also.

While we were staying in Onancock, we wandered over to the Ker (note: tour guide pronounced it closer to "Car") Place museum. We didn't make an appointment, but arrived within operating hours, and were fortunately to arrive right before the top of the hour, when tours apparently start. We were greeted by a very friendly lady who was busy doing multiple tasks at once - tours, working with people who had an upcoming event or something, and the gift shop. Once the tour got underway, it was easy to see that our guide (I wish I could remember her name) was very interested in the subject matter and work of the local historical society. She said she was a former teacher, so perhaps this helped. While the house had some neat features, the tour was definitely made far more interesting by her enthusiasm. She gave us additional facts that were not part of the tour proper, and was eager to answer and discuss questions. There are small grounds and an old ship on the property too, along with six fig trees, which we were told grow figs in the fall that visitors are welcome to pick and eat if they'd like (some locals do).I notice that someone wrote there was a $5 charge for the tour; not sure if this changed or if we were lucky to arrive on a free day, but we paid nothing. Last note, if you're interested in historical renovations, call and ask to take a tour with the executive director, who apparently has extensive knowledge of the work being done to the property. Tour time: approximately 45 minutes, then 15 minutes walking around the grounds.

I was a little worried that our kids (12,12,10,3) would be bored out of their minds. But the guide person was really good about keeping them interested. She answered many questions from them.

I consider myself fairly well traveled and I love going to historical homes. I have seen great restorations...Ker Place needs a lot of help. I see the potential...the home could be beautiful but it needs some TLC. The gardens look like they will be lovely once they bloom.

Nice little library with books on the area. Tour takes about 45 min and costs $5. We didn't have time to take it due to another appt but next time we visit we will definitely go.

I'm often not turned on by old home tours but the faux finishes used in this home are something I haven't seen before. Probably the most interseting tour I've taken in that respect.

We just visited Ker Place today and it is a beautiful house with helpful, upbeat people. We took a wonderful, informative tour of the 1799 house, learned all about the family that lived there, and saw an exhibit about a bunch of Eastern Shore memorabilia. Then we strolled around the yard, enjoyed the garden, and sat on a bench under the crepe myrtles. What a treat!

I love Kerr Place, an old Federalist style home that has been lovingly restored and turned into a museum by the Eastern Shore Historical Society and the residents. The gardens are a dream with the herbal and kitchen gardens. I like the star Dogwood. I'd never seen that tree before. But my favorite place is the dining room. It looks like you've stepped into a Wedgewood cup, a beautiful pale blue with white frosting accents. The dining chairs are reproductions , all hand carved by the residents of Onancock. Not a lick of electrical tools touched those sack-back style Windsor chairs. Ker Place sponsors a chair making workshop every year. I took the course and now have two lovely bench made chairs from my own hands! The gift shop is fabulous. Some things you could get at Williamsburg, but most you cannot. The volunteers are ever so helpful. And the stories! I just had so much fun. At Christmas there are a lot of children's activities. This summer there will be activities revolving around the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 (the big historical conflict of the area). I try to go back every year, i learn new things every time. I would not recommend Ker Place for 'slow-walkers' or wheel chair users. Access is difficult and there are stairs.
