Take a moment while strolling through Town Point Park along the Elizabeth River to read a few letters home from our service members. It is a bit tricky to find...walk along the water from Nauticus to the Victory Rover boat that takes you on the cruise to see the Navy ships. Letters are cast in bronze and strewn about as if they were blown from a stack on a desktop.

the memorial is located downtown so parking is a concern but there is lots of paid parking on a Sunday, crowds were few and there is a large shopping centre located nearby

I've seen plenty of nice war memorials over the years, but the letters along Norfolk's waterfront may be the most touching I've ever seen. It is amazing to take the time to read the stories of the men and women who have served over the years, and to read their perspectives as they fought in war. A must stop, just a short walk away from the USS Wisconsin.

We love this beautiful tribute to our military. It speaks loudly in it's silent statues. Even our small children enjoyed this enjoyed memorial. You can also view beautiful sunsets from the point, too.

This is one of the most unique memorials that I have ever seen. It is absolutely fascinating and beautifully situated. A must see if you are a history buff of any degree.

This is just a few minutes from the nautilus and week worth the find. One of the most moving military memorials I have ever been to. If your in Norfolk, well worth the visit.

This memorial is fantastic...very creative. It is in a kind of odd place, sort of out of the way in the park. It is a must see if you are in the area. Right next to the Nauticus museum.

It was a bit confusing to find this memorial we walked around & past it a few times because this memorial is mostly on the ground, it has these large bronze "letters" that look like they have been scattered by the wind.I think there were around 20 of them, written from the 1800's until Iraq war. Letters of service memebers mostly to their mothers & family. The dates the letter was written along with the dates the service memeber died were inscribed on the big bronze papers. It was a no-attention grabbing memorial, nothing flashy or large, just the words of service members missing their loved ones & dealing with the scars/reality of war. Very powerful. One of my favortie memorials I have ever seen & I have been to MANY!

This memorial is inspiring, touching and extends the true psychological meaning of appreciation for the brave. The letters to which we are instructed to "give...their meaning" were artistically replicated and designed as blowing in the wind along the shore. They were truly touching, tear-inducing and eye opening. Every citizen should visit this memorial and REALLY read these letters: "give them their meaning" as the dedication has asked.

This is my far the best thing we saw. Reading all those letters from the soldiers was very humbling.

Quiet, tasteful, thought-provoking. I especially liked the location, so close to the "Wisky". Perfect.
