wilderness canoe - day trips

(Labor Day Weekend 2014)My husband and I have taken many river trips, rafting and tubing mostly. This was our first time on the James and our first time in a canoe on a river. In my opinion the river is running too low to use a canoe, that combined with lack of experience and zero instruction makes this a very dangerous trip. Basically the service this outfitter provides is to take you, your cooler and their canoe, drive you upstream and drop you off on the side of the road. There is no instruction on safety, no instruction for what to do when you come to rapids, or run into shallow areas, or capsize or get caught in a rapid without a PDF. This is a swim at your own risk operation, be sure to educate yourself on these matters or as I found out the hard way, you are literally taking your life into your own hands.
