A large group of our friends arranged a day floating down the river in inner tubes. So much fun, and the hardest thing to do in preparation was to decide what to pack for lunch; as we stopped at a beach to eat. Some folks floated an inner tube with beverages in a cooler and tied it to their ride. A very enjoyable day, with all arrangements (bus down to river, tubing supplies, etc.) made more pleasant by the helpful staff.

My first time kayaking on the James. Easy access to their facilities. Well maintained equipment. Easy in and out river access.The staff was friendly and efficient. Loved it. will go back and take some friends.

Get on the river right at their place and they pick you up after you float 3 miles down the river. Driver very informative about the river and the area.

I went with a couple friends to tube for the day. Our reservation was at 10:30. We didn't get in the water till about 11:15 due to understaffing. The people working seemed like they didn't really know what was going on. The float was relaxing and we enjoyed the scenery along the way. After we got back to the office we said we wanted to go again (the float was 1.5 hrs) and they looked at us like we were crazy. We ended up leaving and had to find a park to eat our lunch in as there was no where there to even sit down. It was definitely not worth the $24 per tube. I would suggest New River Junction. They have a nice picnic area, you can float all day long as many times as you want and it's only $9 per tube.

I had just moved to Lynchburg from Wisconsin one week before my first float down the James River. It was a beautiful day as I started my decent with two my new friends. The warm sun and cool water was just what I needed for a relaxing day. The skies quickly changed and the rain started to pour. Not even the weather could ruin my float down the river. I came back a few weeks later with a group of 30 friends to have another floating adventure. We all had a great time with our tubes connected and the coolers full. The James River Float Company provided excellent customer service and I advise people of all ages to enjoy a day of tubing down the James River.

Easy way to have a fun summer day floating down a river in an intertube.

A group of us did the Five Bridges float. 3 on our own kayaks, 1 rented kayak, and 1 rented canoe. We had a fabulous day of fun. The river was low, but that's not the float company's fault...we laughed and had a fun fun fun birthday on the river. FYI...we learned the hard way that when the river is low that the trip takes longer. The typical 4-5 hr trip took us 8 hrs. We ran out of water and didn't take enough lunch for that much paddling.

My family and I went tubing on Memorial Day using this outfit. Unfortunately, they were understaffed and ill-equipped to deal with the crowd that had booked tubing and canoeing trips for the day. The girl at the front desk was overwhelmed and snippy, and customers with reservations had to wait forever without being told what to do, what was going on, etc. We had an 11:00 reservation and did not get into the water until 12:00. The actual tubing trip was quite boring and much shorter than advertised. It took just 1 1/2 hours total trip- too little for a family of four that paid over $100 for a day of tubing. Also, there was nowhere really to pull off the river and have a picnic- another big disappointment since we paid $15 just for the cooler tube alone. We ended up awkwardly eating our lunch in the tubes. Perhaps the worst part was getting out of our tubes. The take-out location was not marked and the current was strong, so it was impossible to get our tubes to the set of stairs that led to the landing. My entire family had to grab tree branches and hang on until we were "rescued" by some staff. The bus ride back to our car was the most interesting and adventurous part of the trip, to say the least. At one point I thought we were going to flip over, it was so rough and steep. My kids were banging their heads against the bus windows. When we got back to the company headquarters around 1:30, they had decided to shut down for the day- I guess they reallzed they couldn't handle things. As a result, we couldn't use the changing room or restroom. We all had to change on the side of the road hiding behind towels! Oh, I forgot one last thing: - the water was too deep on that part of the river for anyone to get out of the tubes and touch down. Next time I will go back to James River Runners in Scottsville- they do it way better for about the same cost.

My wife and I have been on several tubing trips with this company and it's been great each time. The river is such a beautiful place and these folks make it easy and affordable to access it and have a fun time.
