Volunteers and the local historical society have done a wonderful job of preserving a part of this region's heritage. The Old Russell County Courthouse has its own historical landmark sign along Alt 58 near Castlewood, VA. The historical society has saved, relocated and restored log cabins to this site. Two cabins were combined to form the Dickenson/Bundy Log House, which serves as a gift shop, offering crafts and souvenirs made by local craft-persons at a very reasonable price.Docents, dressed in Colonial costumes, serve as guides and hosts. Since it is operated by volunteers, the hours sometimes vary. We last visited during their offering of Old Christmas, complete with songs, tales and tour in the old courthouse, and refreshments in the restored log one-room school. Wonderful. I will be watching their website for future activities.Visit their website (https://www.facebook.com/TheOldCourthouseAndTheDickensonBundyLogHouse/info?tab=page_info) or call (1-276-794-7030) to find out their hours.
