Beautifully preserved homes with that home town feel. Great restaurants nearby. Classic New England...

Booked both guided tours the same day, not a large group, just the right size. The first tour was of a few historic houses and the cemetery. The guides were great, learned a lot about witches hung in CT (Salem, MA gets all the press about this), had no idea. The cemetery here was very historic. The streets around our tours were decorated for Halloween. The cost for both tours was very reasonable. The second tour goes thru 3 different houses right next to each other (first and second floors) and you learn about their owners and what life was like in the 1700s. Lovely museum in one of the houses. Public parking across the street from the tours, an easy walk. Our guide recommended a few nice places to have lunch within walking distance, I review the one we went to, Lucky Lou's in another posting here.

Peaceful, Serene, restful, quiet, a fabulous break from the hectic life. Town is beautifully restored. Awesome Colonial architecture, pavers, and pet friendly everywhere.

Old Wethersfield is extremely picturesque with a nice touch of old-fashioned. This is a lovely part of town with benches along the streets, great restaurants and a fabulous ice cream parlor. My husband and I always take a trip to Old Wethersfield when we just want to relax and enjoy the beauty of New England.

The small town of Wethersfield has been preserved practically in total. As you walk down its Main Street there are several interesting 17th,18th,and 19th century buildings to visit. As well as a Museum. Fun to discover its history and what it has to offer.

What a fabulous array of architecture--17th, 18th and 19th Century homes, some now museums but many, many still family homes in great shape. Places well marked where major events in the Revolutionary War took place. First Church, where George Washington attended church 3 times!

We were lucky enough to visit during the Comstock Ferre festival this past weekend. The town was bustling with people for this wonderful event. Everyone was so friendly! Easy to park, and great to walk around and see the preserved homes.

Visiting Old Wethersfield is an experience in and of itself: come here and be prepared to be teleported to the 1700s.

I grew up in Wethersfield, and you really cant find a much more qunntessential beautiful New England town. Its on the river, with Wetherfield Cove, a runnoff of the CT River, adding to the beauty and centerpiece of Old Weathersfield. There is plenty here for history buffs, beautiful old homes (most of which you can tour), churches and the town green! Directly in Old Wethersfield there are a few good choices for lunch or dinner, and the Creamery on main street is not to be missed. If you are looking for a place to stay a few of the large old homes have been turned into B&Bs which have a lot to offer!

Its wonderful to walk around Old Wethersfield, stop for a bite to eat, wander through the Ancient Burial grounds and visit Cove Park. Particuarly beautiful in summer and fall.

Who would guess that an old fashioned Main St. still exists so close to a busy city? Ardently protected by town zoning, this area is close to the Connecticut River. Be sure to visit the Keeney Cultural Center for local exhibits and walk over to the Broad St. green for its collection of trees. Several bistros offer simple fare (a favorite is Cove Deli, further toward the water). There is even a Yoga Center for travelers who want to drop in for family stretching (also Zumba and HulaHooping). A landmark not to miss is Comstock and Ferre, now a seed store with offerings from around the world. Walking is the only way to travel here, especially if you have a dog (and poop bag!). Many weddings and special events are hosted at local buildings, from rustic barn venues to museum homes. Thursday afternoons 3-6, Farmer's Market sometimes has alpaca to admire. A charming stop if you are tired of beach traffic.

We've lived in CT for 18 years and never stumbled upon Old Wethersfield. It's an easy stop between Hartford and the shoreline. Well worth a walk around, visit the historical museum, and have lunch. Everyone we met on a very cold and windy day was welcoming and friendly.

Nice Shops and great restaurants. You can visit the Silas Deane and Webb houses to learn about American history.

We only had half a day here on our way to Boston. It was a planed trip as we had read about the historical importance of this town. The ‘Towne’ has amazing, authentic New England architecture and the houses have been kept up to a high degree. The ‘ salt box’ design is so unique compared to our own buildings. It was a delightful experience, especially Silas Dean House and the two other houses you can tour with a comprehensive narration about the people who lived in them and the different building ‘style’ over time. The stories took you back in time and the remarkable restoration work will keep them for future generations.A stroll down every tree-lined street was a pleasure with many buildings of a bygone era standing the test of time. Every season here would be a lovely experience with delightful cafes and restaurants, gift shops, quaint museums and the friendliness of the people. Clearly the rich heritage of Wethersfield is very important to this community. It was one of the nicest 'short trips' of our New England experience.Enjoy your visit!
