Wood Memoral Library, tucked at one end of Main Street, is part of South Windsor's history. A quasi public-private libary, filled with artifacts, treasurers, changing art work, hosts children's story hours and activities, as well as the famous Gingerbread Festival each November-December. Patrons can browse art or books, visit exhibits, attend concerts and lectures, and take a path back into history. While relatively small in size, Wood Memorial Library, however, is large in heart and soul.

This was my second year attending this truly amazing display. When you think you've just seen the "best one" in the show a "new" "best one" pops up around the corner. Congratulations to all the participant, young and older, they are absolutely great artists. The craftsmanship is outstanding. This is a "not to be missed" event.

So happy we took the chance and brought our three young boys to the Gingerbread Festival. What a great family memory. Wood Library itself is interesting, and filled with gingerbreads, it was amazing. There was an incredible display of houses from beginner to expert. All of the boys loved it. They not only want to go back next year, they want to enter their own gingerbread house. A new family tradition.

This was the first year I visited the gingerbread house festival. We brought our guests from Florida with us. We were amazed by the artistry and craftsmanship of many of the gingerbread houses. My personal favorite was the house of the seven dwarfs, including the names on their little beds!!I recommended the event to my daughter who brought her son, age 8, and other friends who took their grandkids. Everyone raved about it.

Visited in 2014 for the Gingerbread Festival and was delighted with the variety and sheer number of houses in this charming library. They had a great gift shop and the staff and volunteers were terrific. Will definitely be back!

The many nooks and crannies in the library makes for a fun day with your family of ready, book treasure hunting for the best stories and places to lounge (always with a buddy you know). There are interesting displays. You can donate books and also buy used books in the basement shop ran by senior citizen volunteers.

I went with several friends to the annual Gingerbread Festival that they hold at Wood Library each year. It exceeded my expectations! There were easily 100 Gingerbread Houses of varying degrees of expertise scattered all throughout the building. Some were traditional gingerbread houses with candy accents, others were replicas of area landmarks. There was no theme to the houses so I saw everything from a candy baseball field, to a gingerbread car club, The Grinch overlooking Whoville and Santa stuck in a chimney. There was holiday music playing in the background and snowflakes and decorations all over the building. It really was enchanting. They also had a "shop" set up off to the side selling crafts and holiday gifts along with baked goods. It was a fun afternoon. Although the event was free we were happy to drop a few dollars in the donation jar on our way out. We will definitely be back.
