Right next door to the Florence Griswold Museum is one of the best local art associations in New England: The Lyme Art Association. They have changing exhibits throughout the year, with several dozen works shown in each. In December, they have a special holiday show with the building also decorated, and musical performances at some times. The works shown are mainly paintings and watercolors, although you might also find some small sculptures. The quality is always excellent and the style ranges from traditional to more modern. Prices also range from a few hundred dollars to a few thousand. But there is NO pressure to buy anything - everyone is welcome to browse and enjoy the art. Many of the works are done in an Impressionist style, so it's a lovely complement to the collection at the Griswold. You can even walk between the two properties over a small wooden bridge that crosses between them (or park in the Art Association's large lot). The gallery is open Wednesday-Sunday from 10-5.
