This is a great and fast way to get to Block Island from New London, CT It only runs in the spring thru the fall and does not take cars as it is a speed ferry.

Had a wonderfully quick ride on the high speed ferry to Block Island on Thursday Morning to meet friends at the 1661 Inn. Whether you want a day trip to the island or spending the night the high speed ferry is an excellent choice!

We made the reservations by phone. Checked in at ticket window and agent gave us some great tour information. When boarding with wheel chair, crew helped us up the gang plank with a cheerful attitude. The ride was fast and views marvelous. Parking in New London was easy with the parking attendant being helpful and welcoming. Small café had the biggest and tastiest muffins. This was my first ride on a fast ferry, and it was smooth.

We took a day trip to Block Island recently with my elderly parents using the Express Ferry from New Lindon. My Mom is a wheelchair user. The parking was convenient to the ferry and the staff there was very helpful. Quick and easy dockside ticketing, although in high season, advance reservation is strongly advised. The ferry was handicap accessible and comfortable. Lovely, scenic ride to the island. I highly recommend this mode of transportation to the island.

We took our annual day trip to Block Island on the high speed ferry out of New London. It was calm that day so both going and coming were very relaxing. We park the car across the street which is very convenient. It was very nice and is a great way to get to the Block.

One can travel to Block Island by ferry from New London, CT. or Point Judith R.I. If you are traveling from Connecticut or the NYC area, the New London ferry is the way to go. it is a high speed ship and the trip takes between 1 1/4 - 1 1/2 hours. It is a smooth and most enjoyable ride. The reservation process is easy, but make sure to reservein advance, at least on weekends. Parking at the dock area ($10.00) is convenient, but limited. If full, you wil need to park about a 5 minute walk away and pay $10.00-15.00. The only negative is that outside seating is limited, so get aboard early if you desire a seat on deck.

Wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn in New London, CT. Walked about 3 blocks to the Block Island Express Ferry dock. Their website (https://www.goblockisland.com/) has a lot of information, including fares, schedule, parking instructions, and making reservations. Reservation process was easy: choose your departure point (from either New London or Block Island), departure date and time, number of passengers, whether it is a one-way or return trip (return on same day or different days; the price is discounted if returning same day). Then it gets charged to your credit card. You get e-mail confirmation, and you must print out your reservation receipt to show on arrival to get your tickets at the dock office. In our case, the cost was $45 per person for a roundtrip from New London to BI with same-day return. This is a passenger-only ferry, no vehicles. Carry-on luggage is permitted (no limit), as are bicycles (at extra cost). In the indoor section, there are several TV screens; they were showing the Red Sox game and other sports programs while we were traveling. They have a food and drink concession. It is not permitted to drink alcohol onboard if it was brought onto the ship. Boarding starts about 30 minutes prior to departure time. We traveled on the first ferry on a Sunday morning (day before Labor Day); it was relatively crowded as expected, but the boarding occurred very orderly and fast. There are two passenger decks, one indoor and one outdoor. On a heavy travel day, expect that all seats will be taken and you may have to stand if you are one of the later ones to arrive. The ferry left just about on time. The trip itself was about 70 minutes, plus a few minutes more for off-boarding, which again was fairly orderly for such a large group of people. The ride itself was very smooth, at least for me. I had overheard others talking about several people who got seasick, which was surprising to me.We took the 8:30am ferry from New London to BI, and we were scheduled to return on the 8:10pm boat. However we decided to leave BI a little earlier. BI Express Ferry accommodated our request to switch our tickets to the 4:55pm ferry instead, with no problem.

A same day round trip , $45 per person (including 12 yrs.), on a weekday was truly breath of fresh air......salt air if choosing a seat outside on upper deck. I never tire of the water views, including lighthouses. This particular day the sun graced our ride to and back from BI. This vessel is a high-speed catamaran. Our return trip began @ 5pm and the outside deck was filled but as the hour + ride wore on, some people went inside. Always take a wrap of sorts for the ride outside. There is a concession inside. I thought cigarette smoking was prohibited everywhere on the Jessica W but perhaps I am misinformed or as is often the situation, smokers do not honor the rules. Personal bicycles and coolers are permitted.

The ferry ride was great. The ferry was a little packed but enough room for all on board. There should be a huge sign about parking in the parking garage vs. the lot. The lot is quite small, and fills fast.
