This beautiful house has a wonderful museum within. The fee is a mere $5 for adults. Early Middletown residents who served in the American Revolution, the Civil War, and the War of 1812 brought home their uniforms and artifacts of war, which their descendants wisely preserved. The displays are professional and engaging, as is the docent, who shares her time and knowledge unstintingly. The color she adds to the standing displays make them come alive, although the displays themselves are artfully laid out and fascinating. My friend and I spent a happy hour there, listening, learning, and wandering the museum's many displays. There is plenty to learn, and it is especially compelling to hear our country's history through the stories of people who lived in those times. Seeing their clothing, shoes, diaries, uniforms, rifles, bayonets, and household items brought home what difficult times they lived through. We were very glad we had stopped in and would recommend this historical gem to anyone over the age of 8. It was a very well spent hour!
