This is one of the oldest swing bridges. It is a beautiful site. The park on the haddam side has river cruises and just across the bridge is the Goodspeed Opera house. A must see.

It looks nice, but truthfully, it's a bridge. It's interesting to look at when it's open, but really, nothing else to see. We drove over it to the Opera House. It's not really that interesting. You're better off seeing a play at Goodspeed or touring Gillette's Castle.

Structurally, the bridge is beautiful. However, when the bridge swings, it takes about 20 minutes to complete . Keep this in mind if you are going to a show or reservation.

Interesting and beautiful bridge above the river. Looks brand new and well lit at night. You see the Goodspeed Opera House as you cross over into East Haddam. With the fall foilage and river in the background it is a picturesque sight.

Simple and quite long authentic Swing Bridge that you can drive over. It goes over the Connecticut River, and is recommended if you are not taking the Ferry. This is a way you can get from the west to drive over the CT River to the William Gillette Castle! Beautiful scenery and homes on the way over. Enjoyable.

we were dining at the gelston house restaurant and afterwards sat in the picnic area along side goodspeed opera house and CT river. we had a nice treat watching the swing bridge open to let through a sail boat. very cool since it's a swing bridge instead of draw bridge. if you're in the area, you might time it just right.

This is summertime at its best... we live in the area and stop off for something to eat/drink and bring it down by the River behind the Goodspeed Opera House where there are picnic tables and a huge parking lot. Especially on the weekends, there is much river traffic, watching the beautiful boats pass by, and hopefully being there when the sirens blow, the traffic stops, and one-half of the Swing Bridge opens up... and the waiting sailboat or tug boat makes its way up/down the river. The traffic gets backed up, but the bridge is never open for more than say 10 minutes, so the wait it short, and then you are on your way. A lovely scene.

Fun to travel over and the kids love it. The only drawback issummertime boat traffic, you have to wait until the boats passunder the bridge. Other than that the view from the bridgeis beautiful, we have seen Eagles flying overhead, alsohawks. There is a cute store to shop in right after the bridge, and Dunkin Donuts close by also.

We went to see the bridge around 9:20 am. Most shops were still closed. We sat right near the bridge and watched as two boats went thru. It raised at 9:40. Every 40 minutes past the hour. Great town, very beautiful. The bridge is so quiet, it surprised us. Make sure to check it out.

It is just a bridge. It is a little awe inspiring, but truely it is a bridge. I liked the metalwork it looks amazing. That is the only thing I like. It was to me boring. So go over it to a worthwhile place.
