We were at French Camp for a church meeting. French Camp is a place of slower pace, one where you want to slow down. This is a wonderful to spend a weekend getaway. In the fall they have a big fall festival that I hear is neat.

Very quaint stop. I was motorcycling with friends from Colorado who wanted to stop at the French Camp for their BLT. The grounds were nice, the food to me was only average. The staff was very friendly.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Burford Cabin (a log cabin) last night and loved it! The cabin is gorgeous with air conditioning and heating depending on your season! It has a porch with rocking chairs and a kitchenette as well! It was very exciting to be staing in the old settlers camp! The B&B is right next door and the breakfast included is amazing! The B&B is also a wood cabin, but is modern-ish decorated and looks gorgeous! We are only staying the one night but I would have loved to have stayed longer and explored the Trace Parkway from this location! Honesty make sure you stay here, you won't regret it!

I had never stayed at a bed and breakfast prior to this trip but when I arrived I found something I never expected. When I checked in, Debra (the receptionist) was warm and friendly and very helpful. I asked if there was anywhere close by to eat and she indicated there was a cafe' open right behind the gift shop (where I registering.) I went to the cafe and was greeted by the nicest waiter I think I have ever had. Josh was exceptionally courteous and thorough and answered all the questions I had related to the menu. I finally arrived at the "main house" and found it very inviting and very clean. The staff was helpful and helped me get settled as quickly as I arrived. After a very comfortable sleep---I woke to find the most wonderful "continental" breakfast I have ever had. I wonder what continent serves a ham and cheese and egg and onion concoction with six varieties of fruits, yogurt, special breads made by the staff on site and coffee good enough to be called "LOUISIANA APPROVED." If you want to know anything you just need to ask and the staff makes every effort to meet your need. While I was there I observed two things that made me smile. One---the women who were in one of the "cabins" came in and they had also had Josh as their server and one inquired if I had had the "Big Willie" for supper. I told her no and she said---"That was soooooo good but I think they should probably have an ambulance outside for the coronary." The Big Willie has 10 crispy pieces of bacon, lettuce and tomatoes. The second thing I noticed was on Sunday morning, our hostess Summer came into the dining room carrying a vase full of fall leaves. One of the women at the other end of the table began to cry. It seems she had requested leaves prior to her arrival and Summer had gone out early Sunday morning and had gathered them together. The staff is exceptional, kind, courteous, professional and thorough. Other than that---they were "okay". :-) I would recommend this B&B to anyone traveling the Natchez Trace. As if the Trace wasn't reason enough to travel the trace----French Camp is at the half way point and a great way station. Take in some of the history of the area. It will be a trip worth while.Chadetta Blankenship

This review is about the restaurant operated by the French Camp Academy:This rustic eaterey, whose profits support the Academy, is the only restaurant directly adjacent to the 444 mile long Natchez Trace Parkway at approximately mile marker.180.7. The turn is marked as "French Camp," with a marked historical stop just preceeding for the Northbound Traveler. For the Southbound traveler, if you miss the turn, the historical stop provides for an easy trun around. At the restaurant, there is ample parking, overlooking the Trace. Motorcyclists be cautioned, as the parking area is entirely gravel., Entering through the open portion of the 1830's frontier cabin, the restaurant is in the rear. With tables and chairs inside and picnic tables ouside, the fare is basic, offering salads, sanwiches, soups and soft drinks. A reasonable, and very good, lunch may be had for under $10. As you pay your bill in the gift shop, there may be an additional item of interest, as well a a free brochure about French Camp.

We were looking for a place to spend one evening on the drive down from Memphis, TN to Natchez, MS, and found the fantastic French Camp Bed & Breakfast, which is run by the Academy. We arrived at night and were the only ones staying in a large, rustic log cabin. Our room had lots of character and was very comfortable, and there was a lovely porch to sit on outside. Nearby were individual cabins for families. Our hostess was a sweet young woman who made us feel at home, and the breakfast the next morning was incredible - a huge feast of food.We asked for a tour of the French Camp Academy, which is a Christian boarding school for at-risk or troubled children from underpriviledged families, and one of the leaders took us around the campus by car and explained how it all works. This is a highly recommended stop-over which is located right off the Natchez Trace, I believe about 180 miles north of Natchez.
