We attended the Home for the Holidays concert at Orchestra Hall, located on 3663 Woodward Avenue (be aware of LOTS of construction on Woodward avenue). The Detroit Symphony Orchestra sounded fantastic in the acoustically perfect Orchestra Hall. The choirs ... which included Detroit Children's Choir "midtown concert chorale", Bloomfield Hills high school "the Jills", Bloomfield High School Chamber Choir, and Grosse Pointe South High "The Pointe Singers" added to the holiday spirit presented by the DSO. A Santa Claus, who was as big (or bigger) as the Detroit Lions Ndamukong Suh came on stage and read "Twas the Night before Christmas" while the DSO played ... a real treat. The only drawback to the event was that we did not find the seats to be very comfortable ... not much leg room. We heard the DSO several times at the Michael Guido theater in Dearborn (Michigan Ave and Greenfield) and found the seating roomier and more comfortable in the Dearborn venue..

The symphony and venue are both excellent and worth visiting. I would have rated it five stars except for the very long wait to get out of the parking structure. Last time I visited I was at the top and it took 40 minutes (literally!) to get out. I went very early this time so that I could park closer to the exit and then ran out as quickly as possible during the applause. It helped but still took 15+ minutes to get out. Very frustrating. They need to figure out a way to speed things up. But the symphony is great!

We looked forward all year for our first "Home for the Holidays" concert at the DSO. A huge disappointment!! They changed words to suit non Christians (taking "Israel" out of the phrase "King of Israel") And the greatest disappointment of all was they jazzed up the "Hallelujah" chorus to such a point that rather than standing up with it came on...I felt more like walking out. I love the DSO, but will never return for a Christmas special again.

The Detroit Symphony performed with Andrea Bocelli. They never missed a note. A very enjoyable evening of music.

Had the opportunity to hear them as they performed with Bocelli at a concert at the Joe. They were unbelievable, amazing, entertaining and enjoyable and played a good variety of music as well.

The sound in the Max Fisher Music Center is absolutely wonderful, and Leonard Slatkin takes full advantage of it. I took a pre-dawn flight in order to catch a Friday morning performance, and I was glad I did. The program was Daugherty, Copland (Billy the Kid) and Rachmaninoff (Third Piano Concerto -- Ohlssen). The Daugherty was too loud sometimes, but I heard nuances in the Copland that I'd never noticed before. In each piece, every part could be heard with perfect clarity. Marvelous musicians in a hall to match. It was a spine-tingling experience.

The DSO as presently constituted has 3 important advantages. The acoustics at Orchestra Hall are among the best. the place is not so large that the music gets lost. The prices are quite reasonable with box seats sometimes going for less than $90 and this is a collection of musicians that can play anything.well.

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra moved back into the historic (and acoustically perfect) Orchestra Hall / Paradise Theater after it was rescued from the wrecking ball by a dedicated citizen's group. A world-class orchestra, the offerings at Orchestra Hall run the gamut from classical to jazz, young people's concerts, holiday and international guest concerts. Many of the musicians are educators active in community outreach and concerts may feature optional pre-concert talks.

The Detroit Symphony is one of the great orchestras in the country. Their repertoire is very diverse and they highlight a number of guest soloists each performance.

Brilliant, we were given a talk before the program of Copland and Bernstein. And it was very helpfull. It was a great program and very well performed by all the musicians.

Orchestra Hall, the home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra has some of the best acoustics in the world, and they showcase world-class talent. The ticket prices are very reasonable compared to other cities. I highly recommend this lovely orchestra.

This way a fantastic day. Lots of activities for the younger kids. Then they had a story teller along with the symphony ... Unbelievably Great. We all had so much fun. Can't wait to do it again next year.

Consistently fine music, spirited performance, great guest artists, terrific acoustics. Leonard Slatkin is not only a great conductor, but a personable human being.

We are season ticket holders and absolutely love the shows. The Pops series are great for people interested in the symphony but not accustomed to classical music. The Pops series has had themes for Elvis, Abba, Freddie Mercury, Cirque Du Soleil, Star Wars, and tons of other genres.
