We have had main floor, balcony and box seats in this gorgeous venue. All have been terrific, but prefer box. Have seen performances ranging from comedy to opening night Don Giovanni and attended the opening night gala. Jeans to formal attire. It has all been great.

Went with my family to see WICKED. The balcony seats were great, the venue was easy to get to, the only problem we has was the seat space is kind of tiny. My husband is not an overly tall man and his knees were pressed into the seat in front of him. Other than a few cramps, we had a fantastic evening.

First Show I have seen in this venue we had Balcony seats and they were perfect. For the cost difference I think you cant go wrong with this view vs floor seats. Acoustics were perfect. Little gem of a location in Detroit. Check out a show there if you get a chance.

Saw Wizard of Oz there and it was beautiful there. The parking was right across the street for 20 dollars and very easy. Inside is so nice all you can do is look at the ceilings and walls. The staff is so nice and informative. Seats are good just about anywhere. Just a great place to go and see anything

My wife and I attended the musical, Wicked. The seats we had were great, the show was great and the venue was decorated very nicely. The biggest problem was the bathrooms and the size of the lobby. As a few others have pointed out here, the lobby was entirely too small for the venue. Navigating through there was ridiculous. Way too crowded. If there were ever an emergency, I have no idea how anyone would be able to get out. Also, the ladies bathroom was located pretty far away from where we were and down a flight of steps. It took my wife nearly half an hour to go from our seats, to the bathroom and back because of the location of the bathroom and the size/crowdedness of the lobby.

Wonderful experience. Attended one of the last performances of "Wicked" before it moved on.Parking in the adjacent structure was excellent. Be sure to book it when you buy tickets. Stay together as it is easy to get separated. Traffic was a non-issue. Got off I-375 and in two minutes were in the parking structure. Leaving was the same except took 15 minutes to get out of the parking structure as we were on the 6th floor.

We went to Wicked this past weekend (Wicked was outstanding by the way) and had an enjoyable experience. We had purchased box seats which I would highly recommend. The seats, the sound and the experience of the show was fabulous. The cons: the lot next to the theater had no accommodation for handicapped parking, so we needed to pay the $30 rather than walking from the parking structure. We arrived an hour early and were not able to sit in the theater which caused a huge crowd in the hallways, on the stairs and in the lobby. I suppose it was to force you to spend $$$$ at the concession. There were no seats in the lobby or hallway so again, that was a problem for the elderly member of our party. There are not enough restrooms for the amount of people at the theater, especially ladies rooms.

My wife and I just seen Wicked at the Detroit Opera House - The building and Decor is beautiful however the People Traffic is beyond terrible - this building is not set up to handle large crowds at one time - I felt like we where in a cattle heard more than anything. The only thought I had going through my mind was "If there is an emergency" allot of people are going to get trampled. I am not sure if anything can be done about it but its just an FYI if you have a venue here. The DOH Parking garage is also Not user friendly we pre paid our parking here but we ended up on the Top Floor Deck 7 a Block and a Half away from the entrance - After the show it took us almost 30 minutes to get off deck 6 before traffic was flowing - I strongly suggest parking on an outside venue unless you dont mind waiting. Overall its a beautiful place and very historic for Detroit - we will most likely go again if a show warrants us to see.

We were gifted WICKED tickets by our children for Christmas because they knew we had wanted to see it for a while. We weren't familiar with the Opera house but we were very impressed when we arrived. Parking garage directly across the street was very convenient and the staff very pleasant. The building was older but nicely maintained. It was beautiful inside - gilded walls, beautiful chandlers, etc. Staff was very friendly. A couple issues the restrooms were downstairs with narrow hallways and very small for the size of the venue and the threatre itself was very warm, almost uncomfortably hot. The sound was good but not as amazing as I would like for a show this acclaimed. All things considered, a very good experience! PS ~ WICKED was fabulous !!!

Very historic attraction in Detroit. Sound is extremely good. The seating, although padded is somewhat cramped. The facilities (bathrooms) are few and the lines are long. Not an easy venue to maneuver around in, but an experience worth trying. Even the last row of seats is not bad viewing.

We went to see Madame Butterfly. Seats in mezzanine were perfect vantage point. For those of us who need to read the subtitles of operas, the upper level seats are best. The opera house also offers a good variety of productions beyond opera. Tickets can be a bit pricey. However, they do offer student pricing for high school and college students with ID. For the reviewer who objected to food and beverages permitted in the seats...this is standard practice at all of the theaters in London. So, I guess Detroit is following the trend.

I am (almost) always impressed by the productions hosted at the Detroit Opera House--whether they are dance productions, full-blown operas, or the Broadway musical fare. The ticket prices range from very fair (the 2014 opera/dance season tickets were extremely reasonable) to ridiculous ($150-$197 for the 2nd National Tour of Wicked--a scaled down version of a scaled down tour, yikes!!) and the staff has always been exceptionally friendly and helpful before the shows and during intermission. The venue is beautiful and its always a treat to arrive early and explore the restored building.But....The decision to sell movie theater-like concessions before shows/during intermission AND allow that food/drink to be brought into the theater is an absolutely terrible one. I realize that the Opera House needs to bring in money, I do. But the decision to allow that food into the theater hampers the enjoyment of the shows for many people, myself included. If I wanted to hear hundreds of people chomping loudly on popcorn or slurping on pop, I would pay $10 to see Into the Woods in theaters--not $100+ to see Wicked on stage. The second act of the show was particularly plagued by food noise, and even during the quietest of moments one could hear a symphony of crunching, slurping, and chewing. If the Opera House wants to sell concessions, they should not allow them to be consumed in the theater. Encourage people in order receipts to come early if they want to a taste of the opera house's culinary treats rather than doom the audience to a glorified movie theater experience. Please!

Just went to see "Wicked" here, the play was amazing and the seats weren't bad. Would've liked to have gotten a little closer, ( the climb to the mezzanine wasn't the greatest). The inside of the building was beautiful! All in all, a good experience.

The theater has amazing architecture details. It is just mind blowing! Along with the Fox theater it is the most flamboyant place in Detroit! I' ve been there multiple time and every time I go there, I m amazed. You can dress up as fancy as possible! The facility has weird bathroom design so be early for the performance if you have to go to the restroom before the show. There is multiple parking options available. If you buy a parking ticket well advanced with a performance ticket, you can save 10$.

During a walking tour of the great Detroit movie palaces of the 1920s and 30s, we had the opportunity to take an extensive tour of this grand theatre. It was designed by the renewed theater architect C. Howard Krane - and the details represent the classics. Details, a stage now used for opera and theatrical productions that is one of the largest in the US. Just a magnificent place to explore.
