Meadowbrook Hall is decorated very elegantly for the holidays and it is interesting to see how the family lived back in the day. It would have been nice to have a few more "stories" about the rooms. Walk out to the cottage was difficult -- no lights along the paths -- but worth seeing.

Meadowbrook Hall is a gorgeous place to visit at Christmas or any time. During Christmas each room is professionally decorated in holiday spirit. Coupled with the history you can't beat it. I have also been there in the summer. The hall and grounds are simply beautiful. Worth the trip.

We did their "Downtown Abby" tour over the summer and really enjoyed being able to see "behind the scenes" parts of the house. Tour the house, the grounds and even book it for a special occasion.

My family and I have been to Meadow Brook Hall many times and are never disappointed. We always learn something new with each visit. My husband and I have attended the Wild Game Dinner which was interesting and enjoyable. We've also attended the Speakeasy event which is an interesting concept just not well executed (but then we went for their first year). My family and I love visiting during the holidays for their Holiday Walk.

It is always wonderful to tour something in your local hometown, the history means so much more. The holiday decorations throughout the entire mansion were breathtaking, there were so many beautiful trees, mantels, tables, all decorated quite lavishly. Our group had a self-guided tour and my only disappointment was one or two of the docents were not able to answer questions about the rooms or contents. We did learn a lot about the family and their history. The introduction to the tour was given by a young enthusiastic woman who presented the history of the house and sent us off to explore at our own speed. Another wonderful way to get into the wonder of the holidays.

The best time to see Meadowbrook Hall is at the holidays when it is beautifully decorated and the tours are not escorted so one can view the rooms at leisure. Docents are available to answer questions. This year's theme honors Frances Dodge, the daughter of John and Matilda Dodge, on what would have been her 100th birthday. Many items of clothing including her wedding dress are on display. Two cottages on the grounds are also open. The first is Knole Cottage which is a 3/4-scale playhouse that was built for Frances Dodge when she was 12 and the other is Danny's Cabin which is a log cabin built for Danny Dodge in 1926. A workshop was added in 1937 shortly before Danny's tragic death. The cottages are not open every day so call ahead if you want to see them.

This private home, turned Oakland University has a lot of history. Matilda Dodge Wilson was a woman before her time, as was her first husband, John Dodge. (He and his brother formed the Dodge car industry. Both brothers came down with the Spanish Flu and dies within months of each other, leaving two wealthy widows.) The tour of the home, and next day the garages and servants wing were just wonderful. Very informative, lots of personal history, tour of almost all the rooms. This is a must see if you are in the Rochester area! We got to see 2 brides as well.

To be rich in the 20s was to be American Royalty. This is the palace built by a Dodge widow who sold her share of the business when her husband died. A very well designed tour you will surely enjoy if you are touring around Detroit.

I have been to the Hall several times, including for functions. Going at Christmas for the Holiday Walk was beautiful.

The former home of an automotive scion, Meadowbrook Hall is now part of Oakland University. A museum to life in times past, the Hall regularly celebrates various holidays. Its Christmas celebration is very special and not to be missed.

Meadow Brook Hall is the home of Alfred and Matilda Dodge Wilson; she was previously the widow of the one the Dodge Brothers. The house is sometimes erroneously called the Dodge Brothers House; the house was not constructed until after Matilda Dodge married Alfred Wilson. The scale of the home is similar to Biltmore, but it is certainly more of a family home. Matilda lived in the home until her death until 1967, so most of the furnishings are mostly original. Take time to see the Tiffany floor lamp and the Van Dyck oil painting!. The only downside to the attraction is that photographs are not allowed; they should sell a CD with the interior images. The grounds are beautiful, and the house is a good example of an English tudor home. It is a little pricey, but the money supports the home and the grounds, as it is owned by a local university.

Yes the house and grounds are beautiful. It was $100 for six of us to do a fifty minute behind the scenes tour. Then if we wanted to see the rest of of house we had to pay more. They no longer give military discounts. Too bad that will be the last time for me and family that comes to visit. We will go to Ford house where military and their family get in free

This was the second of three grand estates I visited on my trip to Detroit. The other two being Cranbrook House and The Edsel & Eleanor Ford House.Meadow Brook Hall was the home of Alfred and Matilda Dodge Wilson, who's first husband John, founded the Dodge Brother's Motor Car Company with his brother. When it was completed in 1929, this 100 room English inspired mansion, at 88,000 sq. ft. was the third largest home in America. While you can walk the lovely grounds, with it's beautiful gardens for free, there's a fee to tour the interior of the house, and it's a good one, lasting about an hour. The tour guide provides a short introduction to the Dodge and Wilson families before guiding the group through many of the rooms in this three story estate. The craftsmanship and architectural details throughout the estate are amazing as you might expect for a home that cost 4 million to build. The guide provides interesting stories and details about the family and rooms in the house. Questions were welcomed. All of the furnishings and art were left as they were, when the Wilson's lived here. The house is a great part of American history and automotive royalty. There's also a nice gift shop for those that want to bring back a keepsake.
