Hidden jewel here. Try to get a discounted price . UAW owned. Union Pride! This area is not the gold coast..but the slow coast. Nothing wrong with that.

A challenging & beautiful course, tucked in an amazing place! Truly one of the best golf courses I've visited, and scenery cannot be beat. Great eatery & pleasant staff :-)

I have played almost every top notch course in Michigan and Black Lake is one of my favorites! Excellent playing conditions and very secluded. The staff is very friendly and helpful but the rooms could use some updating. Excellent facility with tons of stuff to do makes it very family friendly. The golf course is very challenging yet fair. Best bunkers I've ever played out of! Rest of the course is in prestine shape. Only complaint is there isn't many places to eat around there your best bet is the golf course grill which has very good food. Great place to golf if you love Northern Michigan golfing!

We had breakfast several times while staying at the UAW Convention Center Hotels. Good was very good but a bit pricey for breakfast.

During a recent golf road trip, this was our favorite. The course was meticulously maintained, challenging and settings were beautiful. Would definitely return to this course in the future. Staff was helpful. Only complaint - thought $12 was a little pricey for a two hot dogs w/chips.

I have never played on a course where I felt as much in the wods and I did on a golf course. We even has deer walking across the back of the driving range as we warmed up before our tee time. The clubhouse is also second to none.

Owned by the UAW. A Rees Jones design that wins awards. Perfect conditions always. Great staff and help a lot, most retired UAW folks. A must visit for northern golf.

Northern Michigan is America's summer and fall golf capital, for good reason. The number, variety and quality of the courses is second to none, and Black Lake is among the best. Carved out of the woods in the northern style, the layout is visually interesting while requiring the full range of shots. Large greens, typically tiered, so a 2-putt is never assured. Fairways and bunkers in great shape, the tees and greens less so. 4 tees to choose from depending upon how tough you want to make it. I played in the fall with the trees turning colors, presenting stunning views at a price that I'm sure didn't begin to cover the cost. Good size dining facility and ample bar. What's not to like? #6 public in Michigan per Golf Digest, and it didn't disappoint. Great golf.

All the ranking and reviews must have gone to there head! Upon arrival it was nothing but confrontation very disappointing experience, truly expected more after an hour drive from Gaylord area. Needless to say we found a very nice course in Gaylord that was able to accomdiate our group with out issues and the cost! Stay in Gaylord this course is not worth the trip!

This course is fair yet challenging. Our group had caps ranging from 9 to 29 and everyone enjoyed the course. Played it twice that day. We were the second group off, and about 8 deer stood about 20 yards down in the trees staring at us until all 4 had hit, then ran across the fairway. Even the wildlife here has good golf manners! The holes are challenging but without the gimmicks that some courses put in. Every hole seems to have bunkers guarding the front, so you have to choose a layup safe or go for the green. Choose poorly and you are in trouble. So know your game that day and play accordingly. Very fair for those who hit off line. But when the ball is gone just accept it and take the penalty. Don't let it ruin your enjoyment of the surroundings. The restaurant staff was very friendly and accommodating. We were the last on course and they looked to be closing up, but they were happy to stay and make dinner for 8 of us. Not much else around that area for food, but we were not disappointed by staying. However, be aware that they everything is made fresh. We wanted a quick sandwich so we could go right back out for our second round, but it took what felt like a half hour to get our food. Fresh is good - just judge your time accordingly. One of the nicest courses I have played in Michigan - and I do a trip there once or twice a year. If you are UAW (we were not) check out the packages to stay and play. Group in front of us did that and said it was awesome.

I have played the finest courses in the world. Black Lake is my favorite. What a masterpiece. All other northern state courses should take a lesson from Black Lake.
