We have been there several times. Easy to get to. Plenty of sites. We have a motorhome that needs 50 amp electrical service. They have several. The bay side, to the west is not very nice for swimming. The Huron Lake side, across the main park road to the East, is very nice with a big sandy beach. There is a large pavilion and lots of day parking. Farther to the south is the LightHouse. And there is a trail out to the tip of the point. There is lots of poison ivy down there. To the west you will often see kiteboarders. The Tawas Point State Park is a popular place to bring your family.

The state park is everything a person could want, beaches, camping, food on the premises, safe bike and walking paths, and best of all an 1876 lighthouse that is open for tours!Clean, safe, and well preserved this state park is a must see!

Beautiful park! Love the sights near the bay, the sunsets are beautiful!!! Clean bathrooms and the best ever Bike trail from park to the city trail that goes miles along the bay!!!!!

DNR staff acted like spies starting at 10 pm each night. They would ride their bikes around and hide behind cars, campers and tents listening for anything above a whisper. Whether it was our kids inside a camper with closed windows laughing at a move or the adults playing cards at the picnic table, they were ready to pounce first chance they could get. We have camped in a large group for several years and have never had a problem at any other state park. Although we loved the beach (and the beachfront grill was awesome) we will NEVER return to this campground.

Natural setting with large lots, mostly clean facilities if you dont mind showering with spiders- the room across from the mens room. The beaches are great the warm water of the bay and the cold of lake huron. We kayaked for the first time in our new kayaks purchased here in town and it was awesome!! Come and enjoy but bring mosquito spray.

This is a nice state park for a hike around the point and back. The lighthouse (which has a separate TripAdvisor entry) is a wonderful stop as well. The $9 daily fee is a bit steep compared to other state parks.

We enjoyed our stay at Tawas state park. We were camping with 19 families from our hometown. We rode bikes into town, played and fished on Tawas bay, and swam on Lake Huron. There was a food hut on Huron that we would grab food and drinks from when we did not feel like going back to our campsite. Some of the cons: we were on site 17 (backed up to woods) and we had poisen ivy on the edge of our lot. I spoke with someone and they did come out and spray. We had lots of skunks at night. Every night, at dusk, we took our dog inside after one of our friends dog got spayed. Lastly, we were extremely dissippointed with the DNR at quiet time. We were a large group, taking up three rows of sites. The gentlemen who came around at night informed us that quiet time was pretty much whisper voices. One of the families we camped with was kicked off and sent home. The DNR rode around on bikes and would stop and hide behind our cars and listen for any noise. Our friends were sent home for laughing. It sounds absurd... But true. The guys came on and said we had a warning and sent them packing. There was no fighting, profanity, yelling, or disorderly conduct. The DNR at night were rude, unfriendly, and condescending. Needless to say, we will not be back even though there were Many pros. We truly enjoyed ourselves... However, with that said, our group has camped together for 7 years at other state parks without any problems.

Help set up a campsite with son, daughter in law, wife, and grandson. Wonderfully clean state park with all the facilities. This park has great beaches, facilities, playgrounds and attractions (lighthouse and lagoon. Very nice place to stay on your way around Michigan.

We loved the chairs available for beach-goers. The beach was clean and the sand fun to play in. The scavenger hunt was so much fun for the children!! It was nice to have the mobile restaurant in the park, too.

This state park offers Lake Huron sandy beach with a grill/snack bar, changing rooms/bathroom.Well maintained, and very clean. The work crews were repairing the bathroom roof and painting sign posts while we were there. There is a nice picnic area under trees, which was a nice shady spot for us to eat with our dog. We noticed 2 playgrounds there, one by the beach and one by the campground. There is also a small pond where there were children fishing. A short walk to the other side of the park is the bay side, a dog friendly beach. Very shallow, can walk out a hundred feet and it is still only just above the knee. Would be great for small children, as the water is very calm, and is much warmer than the lake side. My husband and I took our dog and spent a few hours there. Saw a Great Egret and a Piping Plover. There is a campground and a bike trail, that stayed very busy while we were there. There is a lighthouse there as well. The only negative thing I would say is that the mayflies were hatching and there were molted skins floating in the water. Only a minor nuisance, as there were many clear areas without them. This was our second visit there, we will definitely be back.

Beautiful state park. Plenty of gorgeous beach. A huge campground that is always busy and full. The lighthouse is a beautiful piece of history that you have to stop at. Lighthouse can also be seen from beach and it just adds more to your experience. They have a wonderful little snack bar with great food that you would not expect to find at a snack bar. The beach has always has a volleyball net in place as well as lawn chairs you can use. (the lawn chairs do get taken quickly however!) This is a must stop on your visit to Tawas!

Located between Lake Huron and Tawas Bay you can enjoy the beach without crowds. The campground is beautiful and very popular. The State Park was recently designated as an important birding area so birdwatchers have lots to see. With the addition of the Tawas Point Grille you can enjoy great food without leaving the park.

Visited this park many times throughout the years and always come back. Great beach and a historic lighthouse too.

The wife and I live in our Class A RV after retiring recently and are traveling the beautiful State of Michigan enjoying the sites. We made reservations on-line using Michigan State Park;s website to stay a few days at Tawas Point State Park. It was a good thing I called before making the reservations because the park has "electric only" on the sites. 30 amp. No where on the site does it tell you that the sites are Electric Only. We paid the full fee on-line ($27.00 nightly) and after checking out they charge an $8.00 handling fee. Either way you are paying the "reservation fee". If you call you, pay the fee. If you reserve on-line you pay the fee.?????? Anyway we arrive and learn that we needed to purchase a "State Park" Admission sticker for both our RV and Tow Vehicle. Either $9.00 per day, EACH vehicle or $31.00 EACH vehicle for a year since we were from Out of State. This too was never advertised on the parks website. I complained since we live in our RV and don't drive it around sightseeing in and out of the park on a daily basis. Finally one of the employees asked someone of authority and they waived the entrance sticker for our RV and we purchased a yearly one for our tow vehicle. I topped off my water tank at the front office before heading to our site. The sites are grass and pretty level. Our site was adequate for the size of our rig and even accommodated our tow vehicle. We took our dogs out for a walk and after cleaning up after them, the wife and I noticed there are NO, ZERO trash cans or dumpsters anywhere in the entire camping area. I looked at the park map and noticed that there is only ONE trash dumpster which is located at the visitor area parking, which is quite the walk. This is totally unacceptable. How about putting trash cans around the camping area to make it convenient for campers to dispose of trash.?? Who knows maybe there is a shortage of trash cans. Maybe they can take the money I spent on the reservation fee and the daily entrance fee to purchase a few trash cans for the park.Other than the fact that you pay a bogus fee to make reservations, have to pay either a daily usage fee or entrance fee of $9.00 or $31.00 per year for being Out of State and only having 1 dumpster for over 200 camp sites, the area is pretty nice. Undecided if we would stay again.
