Our boat crew takes great pride is keeping everything clean and safe. Wi-fi is a new amenity this year and we are happy to hear that so many passengers have enjoyed this amenity. We are a pet-friendly ferry, what pet wouldn't love to run around beautiful Beaver Island! We try to make sure that all pets stay outside the enclosed areas and can only be on outside decks. I love the Emerald Isle Ferry! She plows through the water, I feel very safe with the experience of many years driving us to and from the island. It's a pleasurable two hours unless it's very rough on the open waters. But it's like a transition from the hustle and bustle of the mainland to a magical place called Beaver Island and the harbor at St. James. You can bring your dog(s) onboard and there is seating on the top if you want them with you on the trip. Otherwise you can leave them in your vehicle.

This was our first trip to Beaver Island. The boat experience was excellent, however, the office staff inside the Charlevoix office were cold and rude, I stated this was our first time, and we still did not get any kind of explanation or direction of where to go with luggage etc. We were able to ask other guests, who helped us figure out what we needed to do.

We went to the island via the Beaver Island Boat company ferry & also took the 3 hour tour of the island, so we would not need to bring or rent a vehicle. The pricing for 3 adults was $261 for the round trip 2 hour boat ride & 3 hour tour. We truly enjoyed the tour given by a local Gaelic/Irish History professor, Sheamus which gave a thorough overview of the history and landscape of the island on an air conditioned modern van. We got out at 2 stops: a beach & a lighthouse (the tower was open for tours). The weather was perfect the day we visited. I would highly recommend this island as a quiet summer getaway--nice beaches/ no wake inland lakes--super friendly islanders.

St. James was worth the trip. There was more to see and do there than I expected. The boat trip is long, but I brought reading material. The 3-hour tour involved a lot of riding through woods, not enough variety. The shorter tour would have been enough and would have left more time for exploring other attractions in St. James.

Time after time the bibco crew has been nothing but professional and courteous. The beaver islander is a much smaller boat compared to the emerald isle so prepare your sea legs If it is rough out.
