This is a must do when visiting da Burgh. Ride to the top and get some pics of the city from Mount Washington.

History and nostalgia. Great views at the top. Now accepts credit cards. There is one attendant who is less than friendly but the last time we rode the incline the attendant this time was helpful and very friendly. Walk 50 yards to the right as you exit the station for one of the best city views anywhere. There is an ice cream shop and several bars near the overlook should you want to get a treat or a drink before heading back down. The incline has been in operation since 1870 and is a must do while visiting Pittsburgh. It is near the shops and restaurants at Station Square, Gateway Clipper and has plenty of parking.

It's not cheap but it's a great way to see the city. We often take friends - they now charge for the car park at the bottom, so one of us goes up in the car with them, the other takes the car round to meet them - usually finishing off with a drink at Monterey Bay. It's a short ride. Only do it on a clear day or evening (which can be spectacular)

When you ride on the Mon Incline, you are taking part in the history of Pittsburgh since this is one of the last two surviving inclines along Mt. Washington that brought workers into downtown Pittsburgh and to the steel mills that dotted the Monongahela (Mon) River during the 1800's and 1900's. The ride up from Station Square is well worth the trip since, once you are on top of Mt. Washington, you get a great view of the Point, the beginning of the Ohio River, and downtown Pittsburgh. Well worth the time spent.

We parked at Station Square and took the Monongahela incline up. We were there during the fall when all the leaves were changing colors so very picturesque. When we got to the top we decided to walk to the Duquesne Incline as well. The views are simply amazing you get to see the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers join and combine as the Ohio River. We also visited the little museum at the Duquesne Incline which was nicely done. It was really cool to see all of the old photos of the Burgh during the height of the steel industry. This is such an awesome experience that is very inexpensive ($3.50 round trip) but make sure you bring cash and exact change.

If the weather is fine you will have a great view of the skyline. I spent a sunset there and it was amazing. But you should have some cash for paying your trip. No creditcards accepted!

It's a great place to do Photoshooting, especially if you are into photographing a skyline at night. Price is reasonable, we paid $7 round trip for two people. The incline is used as regular method of transportation for locals. For one-time travelers you pay the fee at the uphill station. Also, make sure you have exact change.

Love riding the incline up to Mt Washington and looking at the city. It's one of my favorite things to do in Pittsburgh.

After traveling to Pittsburgh for several years to visit in-laws, we finally took a moment to do the tourist thing and do the incline. It's a short, surprisingly quick ride to the top. We had a clear day, so the views were great. A little piece of history that adds some uniqueness to Pittsburgh.

We traveled the incline before, but because our daughter didn't remember, we did it again on our trip home to the 'Burgh. What a great site to see Heinz Field and the Point. It was a really cold, but clear and sunny day. It is really a beautiful site to see the city from the large hillside and there are various lookout points to visit, once you are at the top of the mountain. The cars are really fascinating to see, if you have never had that experience before. If you visit, it is a must see! I highly recommend visiting either incline at a very reasonable price to see something that is not available in any city! Well worth the money and trip.

This was not our first time on the incline but since my daughter did not really remember riding it when she was younger we went with my nephew to refresh their memories. Mon Incline cars are smaller than Duquesne Incline's but both accomplish the same goal, a nice different view of the city. Biggest thing to remember is to BRING CORRECT CHANGE (cash only) for the ride. It was $10.50 for one adult and two 12 year olds to go down and back up. Operator does not have or give change. Interesting old pictures on the walls. Check out the website before going to get some background about the incline. The ride itself does not take long so walk along the outlooks or visit Station Square too to make the visit worthwhile.

Either Incline is great. You can't see Pittsburgh unless you traveled on one of the Inclines. I believe there used to be over a dozen but at least we have two still here. No visitor from out of town should leave with out taking a ride. Also if there is a concert at Heinz Field good way to hear it for free it's like your in the stadium. Ops just gave away a Pgh secret.

The incline is a fun way to see dahntahn Pittsburgh and also reach the top of Mt Washington. The windows are open on the cars so dress warmly in the winter.

Go back in time to a college lifestyle: how to have maximum fun with a minimum amount of cash. In reality, all it took was a little ingenuity and a good setting. We'd get a group of friends together, sneak a little beer, and ride the incline up and down as long as we had nickels (or whatever it took back in the 70s); it was wonderful. Since then, I've visited the incline dozens of times, with my wife on our first trip to Pittsburgh, with the kids on numerous weekend getaways, and now with my best friends and colleagues. I still enjoy the ride up to Mount Washington, where the views are spectacular (especially at night), where I can get a drink, a snack, or a meal, knowing that I have still saved the best for last - taking the incline back down to Pittsburgh!

Tircho sez...I took my grandkids up the incline to see the city from Mt Washington.. great view. First of all, they NOW charge to park the car at the bottom and I thought that it was a bit too pricy for the quick round trip.. going to the top to see the city and then returning to our car. It has all the charm and it is a great way to look at the great city of PGh, but… a great expense for a grandfather..
