This courthouse has quite a history and has apparently burned down twice. But it is stunning. I have not been inside yet but it's worth a drive by and a stop, especially at Christmas time.

Though there wasnt much to be found that I was looking for from my family(births, wills) it was no fault of the courthouse. The lady that helped us was more than patient while showing my daughter how to research and then pull the microfiche. Found out her maiden name was the same as mine - small world!!

My wife and I were looking up family tree information and the staff went out of their way to help us look for information on our ancestors.

My husband's family is from the area, and a long held tradition is a game of "who can see the courthouse first." As we drive, we always looks for the beautiful roof of this majestic building. You can see it from miles away! This building is stunning--and fully functional! The heart of Mercer, the building is very much utilized for offices. They have concerts here where people bring lawn chairs and blankets. It's a lot of fun! Mercer itself is such a great city, the courthouse is no exception. A great place for photos, too!

Situated on one of the highest points in the county, this large colonial brick building can be seen from many directions as you drive into the town of Mercer. It is located in the center of town and is easy to find. It is a fascinating building inside and out. A stroll through the building reminds you that it was built in the era of the early 1800s. This is not just a historic monument, but an active workplace where residents go for assistance and business. The grounds are used for concerts and activities. This wonderful, historical building is an active, essential component of the community. The hitching posts found around the square are still used quite often by Amish residents. Car parking space also available. There are many other lovely older structures around the courthouse as well; and there are several restaurants close by to grab a bite to eat.
