Great river for boating, jet skiing, water sports etc. They closed the locks a few years ago which hurt but still great boating between the locks. They are trying to raise money to keep locks opened during the summer months. In the Spring there is depris from the winter but once that clears out it's a great river to have fun on and the scenery is beautiful. And if you keep an eye out you might even see an Eagle!

So I'm driving down the highway from Pittsburgh back to my hotel in Kittanning and I go over this huge bridge and what do I see? The Allegheny River. Its a big river, with water and its big, like a big river. Its bigger than a stream but smaller than an ocean. So they call it the Allegheny River. Its beautiful and when you compared it to other rivers in the area it surely out rivers them.

The Allegheny River located north of Lock# 9 is the best kept secret...hands down. It's a water ski paradise!!! Its like having your own private lake!!! Morning glassy waters!!! Kayaking is absolutely awesome!!!

If you are in to canoeing or kayaking, this is a great river for it, particularly the further north you go.

The river gives a lot of options for things to do; water ski, boating, canoing, fishing, ect. If you're not a water person, the river walk is great for walking or biking.

The river itself is nothing great, and during the summer with little rain, it smells awful. The park, however, is a nice place to catch a concert, walk your dog, sit on the bench and watch the river, or bring a snack from Sheetz and have an impromptu picnic. During the summer there are concerts and events.
