mountain top at grand geneva resort

We have been season pass holders for two years and it has been a huge blessing watching our children learn to ski ski ski at Mountain Top. Great fun atmosphere, excellent snowmaking and grooming, top notch and plentiful patrol. Easy parking. It doesn't have the vertical of Jackson Hole, Vail or Whistler, but if your kids never do this I can guarantee they'll never do that. Several weekends the mountain has great special events. My favorite thing to eat on the mountain is the veggie wrap. Get there early if you want to get anywhere near the fireplace, there are usually some old ladies with books camped out there who never skied a day in their life. It would be great to see a more accessible fireplace outside the bar.

Enjoyed a nice day on the slopes. The Mountain Top is not Colorado but has enough fun to make you happy. The lounge has a nice atmosphere and the cafeteria has plenty for the kids. Well worth the trip.....

Pretty pricey tickets for two adults and an 8 and 10 year old. The quality of the runs isn't great. Lifties and Ski Patrol look the other way as obnoxious tweens and teens form their own "single" line and butt ahead of everyone else. Two Magic Carpets on the beginner hills are about the only good thing but that's not what we ever intended on using.

It's not Colorado, but I always have a fun time. The instructors are really great. Skip the fast food counter and sit in the restaurant. Good guac.

We have spent a lot of time at Grand Geneva, the Mountain Top, and Timber Ridge Resort. We love it and come often. This year, my daughter has been taking ski lessons and has gotten pretty good! We were disappointed with our last visit to the Mountain Top, however, when a guest who was staying at the Grand Geneva decided that she and her husband deserved a 20-foot table in the ski lodge all to themselves. It is usually a very friendly atmosphere with community tables where you can have a seat, watch a football game, and chat with some interesting people. You pretty much have to share a table because they fit about 20+ people. When my husband and I sat down at a table with this couple near the middle and us on the end (their three kids were skiing apparently, but they never showed), the wife (who had been drinking) went into a tizzy. She was not so into sharing "her" 20-foot table. Then she told security on us for "stealing their seats" even though they had more than 3/4 of the table for when when their kids came back (they never did). I sure hope the Grand Geneva did not give this woman anything for her unfounded complaints because she was clearly a nut job! And her husband knew it: He had to speak slowly and softly to her to be quiet ... over and over again. Yikes!! Perhaps they can rent their own table next time they visit!

My boyfriend & I recently visited Geneva since we've been wanting to test out our new ski equipment. Geneva has a good selection of beginner hills which makes it fun to practice, however, some of these trails can be quite far away from each other. The hills are pretty short too, so the bulk of your time will be getting to & riding on the lifts. The staff was friendly & the fire at the bar/restaurant is great to sit beside when you need a break (+ the specialty drinks are good!). The only complaint I have is the price. Their "night" rates start at 3pm. This is great if you're planning on getting there in the afternoon, but for late-comers (like us, who arrived at 7pm) it becomes pricey for the time you have.

This is a very very small ski "resort". My daughters kept asking me "Where is the mountain, Daddy?" If you have been to Colorado or Utah, you probably won't enjoy skiing here. The average time spent on a chair lift is 1 minute and the average time skiing from top to bottom is 45 seconds - tops! However, if you have never been skiing or snowboarding and you want to try it out, this might be a pretty good option. There is a ski school that offers group or private lessons. Lift tickets are pretty cheap and can be found on Liftopia. There are cross country trails, but I didn't see them. The bar at the top of the lodge offers views of the entire place so you can keep an eye on your kids while you sip your Leinenkugel.

We purchased the ski package at the Grand Geneva, which included 2 free ski lifts with an overnight stay. The accommodations were great and we enjoyed the Mountain Top. It was not crowded and perfect for beginners, as well as more advanced skiers.

Came to grand Geneva for the weekend to celebrate our first anniversary. I have been wanting to try skiing as my husband is pretty advanced. The hills are prefect for beginners. But the runs are pretty short. The first day I took a group lesson, which was enough to at least learn the semi-basics. BUT, I have to take the time to thank Rich for being a fantastic ski instructor. I did a private lesson with him on my second day ever of skiing. He made me feel very comfortable skiing by the end of my lesson. He explained and showed me how to ski in a way that made sense and had me catch on very easily. You can tell that he doesn't do the job for money, he does it for fun. By the end of my second day skiing I was already on all blue trails!! Thanks a billions Rich!!! You helped me discover a new passion in life!!

I'm not a big downhiller, but from what i've seen, the Mountain Top seems pretty typical for southern Wisconsin skiing, however, this ski hill exceeded our expectations.... The ski instructor was very good with our young boys…. The ski lodge was rustic and cozy. I opted to X-country ski. The trails had a decent amount of terrain, but I was a bit disappointed---they were groomed for skating, but none had tracks for Nordic skiing. And some trails weren't even groomed since before a recent snowstorm…. Also, we happened to be there during "20 Dollar Tuesday", which made for some pretty big crowds… The check-in process at opening time (noon) was chaotic, to say the least…. The main desk was closed, so you had to check-in at the gift shop, thus a long line formed out the door…. I would think they would have been more organized…..or at least have the main desks staffed during the initial rush….So, i gave it a 3 overall, but i think the hill itself and the instructors deserve a 4, but since TA doesn't allow half points, i opted to give it a 3 (the long lines were a real turn-off)... Nevertheless, it ain't a bad place to learn to ski or board....

I am just a beginner skier while most of the people in my group were average to advanced. I found this place perfect for a group like ours. For the people that like challenges they have 1 and 2 diamond trails. They also have an obstacle slope where I saw very talented snowboarders and skiers show their talent.For people that have never ski, including children, or those with very little skill this place offers 3 different bunny slopes with gradual increment of difficulty among them. I off course started there. Then I moved on to one of the different 3 easy slopes that they have and it was great skiing... for me.The place has chair lifts for the higher slopes and conveyor belt lifts for the bunny slopes. The personal was very nice and helpful. I saw many private ski and snowboard classes taking place. They all looked like good instructors. I was the most impressed with the one instructor that spent about 3 hours with a 4 year old that ended up skiing without falling on the bunny slopes by the end of the day.If you are use to Denver, the Andes or the Alps skiing... this place will definitely not fit your bill. However, for the beginner to average skier and those who don't mind shorter slopes this is perfect... As i mentioned previously it has slopes up to 2 diamonds so you can still hurt yourself if you are looking for the thrill!!!

With little vertical, the faster runs are over in a heartbeat. But it's about as good as you're going to find in the area. Nice lodge.

Great ski hill that skis bigger then it's vertical drop and has something for everyone from beginner to advanced.

luke warm food and poor selection choices, it would be great to see a smoothie or protein bar or at least some healthier choices

We were in Lake Geneva for a wedding and decided to make a trip out of it and go skiing. I had some skiing experience, so for me the ski runs were average and very short. For my fiancee it was a good place to relearn how to ski after not doing it in 10 years. In the end, this place is probably more suited for beginners. Our biggest problem with Mountain Top was trying to get through rentals. We arrived 30 minutes before the slopes opened, which was not soon enough. It took us just under 1 hour to get lift tickets and rentals. We were in line to get skis for at least 25 minutes. If you need to get rentals, plan an ample amount of time!
