Milwaukee is the land of churches. So for a basilica to be here is no surprise. This basilica is chock full of relics that basilicas lay claim on. And it has a wonderful exhibit detailing the origins of this traditionally Polish church. It made me nostalgic for urban times that were more innocent than what they are today.

Enter with reverence and awe, even if you are not religious. The dedication and work that went into the original and renovation construction is glorious. This is on par, though smaller, with the cathedral at Melk near Vienna. Take a moment to see the magnificence of the edifice that men created to worship their God. Take a moment to contemplate the sacrifice that the Polish people past and present made to complete this work. See it even if you can't stay there for the tour or can not attend mass or a concert. But, if you can hear a performance of the Messiah, by all means do so.

This is such a beautiful church and often open to visit and pray quietly. Wonderful informational posters in basement giving great history. A testimony to Polish Pride and love of the Holy Mother Church...

Such a beautiful church. Go to mass and then stay for the short tour/talk afterwards. Such interesting history about the Basilica and the how the immigrants in Milwaukee sacrificed to get it built. Couldn't stop staring at the stained glass windows and the beautiful ceiling.

The church itself is located in a neighborhood that has seen some crime in the distant past, however the venue outweighs that concern and good sense should happen everywhere anyone travels. In December the facility offers Christmas Concerts that are so inspirational done in this incredibly beautiful and sacred Basilica that you will leave completely transfixed. Well worth the visit. The capacity is very large and often it is filled to the max.

We had been to the Basilica about a year before for a concert, and we were awed. We took some visitors there right after Christmas when we learned that it was open to the public during certain hours--for free! The ceilings are truly awesome, and everything is so elegant. Don't miss the lowest level, which has panels about its history, including the story that portions of the razed Chicago Post Office and Custom House were brought up to Milwaukee on railroad flatcars to be incorporated to the Basilica.

We heard classical music there--fabulous! It was a sound & visual delight. We will try to catch another concert there.

My family and I attended the 1000 Mass at the Basilica of St. Josaphat. The choir was outstanding and the Mass was solemn and beautiful. The Basilica itself is breathtaking and there is a walking tour for those who would like to learn more. A must see!

Last March, I needed to break out of my winter doldrums and decided to check out this Milwaukee gem based on the ratings on this site. I arrived early for the Sunday 10 am mass and took in the beauty of the basilica. Following mass, I stuck around for the tour they offer. An adorable older Polish gentleman guided our group through the church, explaining the history of the community and the architecture of the basilica. It's a perfect outing for a wintry Sunday - an experience that combines faith, history and art all in one.

This was a really great experience for both practicing catholics and non practicing catholics. There is a ton of history here. We took the self-guided tour, but were told that they maybe starting guided tours soon.

This basillica has an interesting past worth looking into. A shining star and perhaps a hidden gem when it comes to historic Milwaukee.

This basilica is on par with European churches. The exterior and interior are gorgeous, a must see. There is a small museum in the basement explaining the very interesting history and construction. They occasionally offer tours for a little more insight but not much better than you can get from the museum.
