Alexander House exhibits local artist, and houses many pieces of the local area history. The art is well displayed, like one might expect from one of the famous art houses. Historical items cover the time from the first settlers, to logging, and paper making. The house in itself is quite lovely and dated, and overlooks the Wisconsin River. The Alexander House is only open to visitors on Tues, Thurs, and Sun. from 1 to 4.

The Alexander House features a permanent local museum, telling the story of Port Edwards and its paper mill, and associated concerns. It also contains changing exhibitions, featuring local and national artists working in a variety of different media. The curators do a very good job in finding unusual artists, for example, earlier this year, an artist who used wax paints was featured. This month there is a glass-blower and a painter. All the exhibits are beautifully hanged or staged, and any 2D art is carefully lit by state-of-the-art lighting. Add to this the friendly welcome you will get whenever you visit, and you have a great attraction!
