    We missed the 10:00 tour so we also visited the Alp & Dell Cheese Shop located down the street at 657 2nd Street. A very nice selection of cheeses at some terrific prices. They had lots of free samples. They also have a large bin of varieties of cheeses at $3.99 a pound.

    This is a must do when in the area. They offer a nice tour where you can see them actually making cheese. There are a large number of cheese varieties for sale in the shop. Check out the discount coolers for cheese. The prices cannot be beat. My favorite is the Butterkase.

    Got there at 9:45, sampled lots of cheese, then at 10:00 our guide took us on a free tour . He was very good speaker and we learned about cheese making and actually saw it in action. After tour we had a hard time deciding what cheeses we wanted to try. We brought a small cooler with ice in it, so we were able to keep our purchase cold all day as we headed to downtown for lunch and brewery tour. Or they do sell small coolers if you need one.

    The gentleman who led our tour is from Switzerland, and is obviously passionate about cheese. A wealth of information over the course of an hour, as we followed cheese from the separation of curds and whey, through the aging process, and finally delivery to their customer. They make an astounding 38,000 pounds of cheese every day from locally sourced milk. The store itself has an incredible assortment of cheeses of top quality. For example, they have cheddars aged anywhere from a few months to 12 years, and they are happy to let you sample them. Highly recommended.

    Need to make this your first stop of the day after breakfast. Their only tour of the day starts at 10:00 am and what a tour it is. It's more of a seminar than a tour. Learned things I never knew about cheese. Most of the towns in Green County remind you of Switzerland, with their Chalet facades, but at the Alp and Dell Store, you get the feeling you are in the Swiss Alps. We were greeted by an energetic, wonderful gentleman behind the counter, with a very distinct and enjoyable Swiss accent and mustache. We had arrived early so we walked the cheese shop and did our sampling and purchasing before the tour began. They were even nice enough to delay the tour, so we could take our purchases to our car. The tour itself was fabulous, we were led to the observation windows by another Swiss accented gentleman (found out later he was one of the owners) He explained the old way and the way milk is brought into the factory now. What they do to the milk once received and how it becomes cheese all the while you are watching the workers flip cheese blocks and spreading curds into molds. What I found to be very interesting was what is done with the whey or by-product of cheese making (you can find it in every pharmacy and GNC store, on the shelves of the body building section) it has become a very lucrative business that was once just waste and sold to livestock farmers for feed. Next you are taken to the curing, aging and packaging part of the plant where they are bathing the cheese in salt brine, leveling the blocks and then packaging the cheese and again there are observation windows so you can actually see what is going on.The reason I said this is more of a seminar, is our tour guide answered every question thrown at him, was definitely a master of his craft and shared everything but the recipes of the cheese making process. One of the best and most knowledgeable tours we have ever taken and the absolute best part is it's Free.After the tour we went back into the store and boy were we glad we had purchased our cheese beforehand, they were crowded as a tour bus had pulled up while we were on our tour.Great tour, fabulous cheese store, reasonable priced, This is just a great place to stop, shop and tour.

    My husband and I came here on Wednesday, June 11 as part of our vacation. We had visited the Historic Cheese Making Center (2108 6th Ave.) the day before, so we had the "basics" of how cheese was made, but trust me, not even that tour prepared us for the AWESOME experience we had here! Our guide was beyond wonderful, as he was from Switzerland himself with the accent definitely apparent! From the moment our tour started, he gave us so much information and thanks to questions from other's in our group, he thoroughly explained the whole process...including how they get the milk from the "happy cows" of Green County! We could have listened to him for HOURS! We were allowed to take all the photos we wanted and he allowed us all time to watch the processes being done! Once back inside the store, there were plenty of samples to be tried and countless choices to purchase! And purchase we did...over $30 worth and so far, each wedge or chunk that we bought was WELL WORTH the price! If we ever get back to this area again, we WILL be back!!!!!! PS: the tour is FREE...and worth so much more!!!

    We enjoyed paying the Roth Kase Cheese factory a visit and getting the chance to try new cheeses at their store. The gentleman who led our tour was Swiss, was extremely knowledgeable and enjoyable and even treated us to his yodeling at the end of the tour. We would definitely go back and buy those delicious cheeses again!

    Tony Agraggen will surely bring tears of joy to you heart with 200 types of cheeses, a tour and some personal jodeling just to round off your adventure....If you miss this opportunity, you will surely be disappointed in yourself, and you will always wonder why the Swiss, in the Alps started jodeling......Enjoy the journey, and sounds, sights and flavors of the world of CHEESE....

    I have gone to this location since I was a child over 30 years ago. I don't remember much about those days, but I know that today Roth Kase is a first-class operation. I believe you can tour the facility, but we have never done so. The store is top-notch and the prices are the best in town! We make a point to try a new kind of cheese almost every time we go. Often, you can try a new cheese from the bargain cooler, so you won't be out a lot of money in the unlikely event you don't like something. You must try the deliciously squeaky cheese curds while you have a chat with the friendly staff. Shopping at Roth Kase is a fantastic experience that our young children love. They especially enjoy having the opportunity to taste the various cheeses and expand their palate. We go as often as we can, and you should too!

    Great selection of cheese from Wisconsin and elsewhere. Don't miss the discounted cheese coolers from some real deals. We were too late for the tour but from the viewing platform we were able to see the gents tossing 40 pound blocks of cheese. Perhaps if you're lucky Tony will yodel for you!

    This is another must stop on our way through Monroe. There are many cheese varieties and the prices are great. You can sample a large variety of the cheeses as well. Stop in and take some home.

    Traveled 700 miles to come out to cheese country and this place was on the list. Excellent selection - tastings available, freshest cheese curds available and one of the only places in Green County that has fresh curds on a non-Monday! Great emantaller from Switzerland too - and very friendly.

    You just can't get cheese like this in Texas!!!! I bought some to take home for friends but we ate it all. Better luck next time pals!

    Great store, many varieties, tasting station to try a new kind of cheese. You can watch how the cheese is made right there.

    Tours start at 10 am with an owner. He explained all of the processes very well. We asked 10,000 questions and he answered them all. Purchase your cheese at the factory!
