This is the place to stop to enjoy the beauty and mystery of butterflies. All in natural settings that helps to lead you into a comfortable encounter with the technicolor flyers the Gardens call you to linger and spend your time in nature with some of its most delicate citizens. Everyone from toddlers to the most experienced of visitors will find much to enjoy and appreciate at the Gardens

Entrance fee is reasonable. Younger kids are free. There is a large area of wild flowers that you can walk through. We saw birds nesting on a tall plant...at eye level. The screened in butterfly house is the highlight for my grandchildren. They love getting up close; sometimes having butterflies land on them. I loved having the opportunity to buy milkweed plants right there in the butterfly house.

I love that it draws attention to helping butterflies. There is a charge to go in the little butterfly house. Is it worth the $5? Probably not but if helps support this cause I will gladly pay it.

We have now been to the Butterfly Gardens of WI twice, both times have been wonderful. Mind you, this is not for those who are looking to be entertained by electronics, high tech gizmos, or other such buzz. This is a place to admire beauty, to be quiet and still, to watch in wonderment. The first time we went it was early in spring. The flowers hadn't been in bloom long and there were only two species of butterflies in the enclosure. Still, we were able to witness a female monarch lay eggs on a milkweed, feed a mourning cloak, enjoy the goofiness of the frogs, view various stages of caterpillar growth and chrysalis transformation, and walk the peaceful grounds coming awake after a long winter's nap. Yesterday, late July, the grounds were in full bloom. Bees were plentiful as were the dragon flies (and of course the butterflies). The enclosure had many more species of butterflies and moths, as well as frogs and a variety of turtles. The small gift section of the enclosure had "wing jewelry," a wide variety of seeds to plant your own butterfly garden, and other butterfly paraphernalia. The staff is SO friendly and knowledgeable. My son found a fuzzy caterpillar out in the paths. He told one of the staff, and before we knew it they were coming out to take a look, identify it, and ultimately take it back to the enclosure to watch and raise. They shared in his excitement and made him feel special and proud for finding such a treasure. It's a simple place; quiet, slow-paced, tranquil, and splendid. We look forward to future visits so very much.

I had seen pictures of friends here with butterflies on their kids and it looked fun. However, it really turned out to be a big waste of time and money. There were only about 10-15 butterflies in the whole thing, and it was so much smaller than I had pictured it. If it were not $5.25 for an adult to enter, then I might not have such a bad taste in my mouth. I could almost go to a museum or zoo for that price! When I heard the price and saw the tiny size of the garden, I wanted to turn around and leave, but my kids were excited to "feed" a butterfly. Worst $12.50 I've spent in a long time.Get more butterflies, and charge $1 per person or $5 per family, then it would be worth it. And the "maze" was not really a maze by the way.

I ended up visiting with my sister and her kids and they had the best time looking around and learning about insects and frogs. It's a cute place with lots to look at and learn about.

This place is pretty cool. My 12 year old daughter didn't want to leave! She made me promise to bring her back in 2 weeks for her birthday!! If you are looking to see something in particular (like butterflies emerging from their chrysalis, or butterflies being released in the late summer, etc) - call there first and ask about timing. Want to attract more butterflies to you? Wear bright clothing. Also, if it's wet out, keep in mind the trails/butterfly shaped maze might be muddy. The price is right, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgable! I'd recommend it.

From the parking lot we were were greeted at the entrance lawn packed with a thick ground cover of clover and native plants. The admission price was easy on the pocketbook. The butterfly house was rated a "5 star awesome" by my granddaughter! The hostess showed us how to identify eggs and difference between male and female Monarchs!. We learned about plants that attract butterflies. The nature walk in the back yard has paths mowed in the shape of a butterfly. There the girls looked for Monarch eggs and caterpillars and even caught a butterfly to take to the butterfly house. I will tell my friends about this wonderful place to be in nature! All ages will enjoy being in this place!

This is a gem of a place to go, walk around, and see butterflies of many varieties. The small gift/souvenir area carries some unique items and all are reasonably priced. I will visiting the gardens often this coming spring!

Learned about the Butterfly Gardens of Wisconsin from TripAdvisor review. What a peaceful and beautiful place to visit! The location includes a netted butterfly garden (think greenhouse) primarily inhabited by Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies. During our visit we witnessed two monarchs emerge from their chrysalis and another fly for the first time. The owners are passionate about the gardens and the butterflies and provide a wealth of knowledge about butterlfies, gardens, and how to create a butterfly garden/sanctuary of your own. The grounds also include a native flower labyrinth to walk around in. You are free to walk the grounds and enjoy. Beautiful landscaping and gardens. There's a building that looks like it would be a perfect place to rent for a small party or gathering - maybe a baby/bridal shower, small wedding reception, small wedding ceremony or anniversary party. Easy to get to - just north of exit 142 of Hwy 41 on east side of Hwy 47/Richmond. Look for sign with picture of Butterfly and the word "Gardens" underneath. Highly recommend for all ages. Plan on about an hour visit. We paid $5 for each adult and our children were both no charge. They are not open year round - very much an outdoor activity so a rainy day would not be a good day to visit. Check their website for more info on hours, admission, etc. I truthfully see this as an attraction that will continue to grow in size, popularity and offerings. Bring your camera!

This attraction opened in July of 2013. It is a nature preserve with the mission of educating visitors about butterflies, and to encourage people to start their own butterfly gardens. I went here to see the butterflies, of course, but also to learn about the types of plants I should plant to attract butterflies. I learned first hand by observing that many butterflies were attracted to a particular purple flower, and was pleasantly surprised that they sold the same type of plants for a very affordable price. I planted it the same night! I also enjoyed the walk through the butterfly maze, and the viewing tower. Stop by sometime - current admission prices are only $5 for adults and kids under 13 are free! The log cabin style visitor's center also has space available to rent for meetings and weddings, if you are looking for a beautiful setting for a gathering. My kids loved the little gift shop with butterfly items, too.

This was a great visit! My mom and I had read and article in our local paper and were excited to check it out! Very new destination that operates mostly on volunteer efforts - so there are some things that are still in the works - but it will only get better and better! There is a screened in butterfly garden where monarchs are everywhere. There are a number of Mourning Cloak butterflies as well and other species fluttering around! Butterflies will land on your clothes - or if you are patient the will walk on to your extended finger. There are prairie gardens as well - with walking trails and areas to explore nature. There are caterpillars, and chrysalis at various stages of development and lots of educational opportunities for everyone! Very cool visit! Will definitely go back!
