Honolulu Art MuseumThe Honolulu Art Museum was a pleasant surprise based on the lack of promotion prior to our trip to Honolulu. The museum has many highlights; the Pacific architecture is very pleasing and the collection includes one of Matisse’s last paintings, a nice set of Rockwell Kent etchings, and Japanese woodblocks (including some which were owned by James Michener). Helpful Hint: Our intent was to take the shuttle to the Doris Duke home but the shuttle stops running fairly early, so if the Duke home is your interest arrive early. The museum is fairly large and even with 2 hours of touring we saw only a fraction of the museum’s collection. The downtown area is fairly easy to navigate and we walked from the museum to the cruise terminal in a little more than 20 minutes.

This was a nice visit for our family. With a small child, there was just enough to see without exhausting her. It took us about an hour to walk through. Neat Hawaii art.

We were offered a guide who showed us around and highlighted some of the excellent pieces. Only small but a outstanding museum with beautiful pieces of artwork. Loved the driftwood horse on the front lawn. If you go by waikiki trolley show your ticket....free.

It's not MoMA or the Met, but it is surprisingly terrific for a small museum. The range of the collection is outstanding: modern art (Hans Hoffman, Frankenthaler, Morris Louis, Georgia O'Keeffe, David Smith, Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, etc., etc.), Indian art, Chinese art, Japanese art, special exhibitions, special lectures. There's something for every tasteI have been to Honolulu seven times new and would never fail to go to this museum.

Before you holiday, get tickets to the stunning Doris Duke home called Shangri La..............more like an art museum than a private home, what an experience, but very popular...get tickets early

My wife dragged me to this museum as payback for taking her hiking up Diamond Head. I have to say i enjoyed every minute. It is an indoor/outdoor museum so it feels different. The collection of ancient Buddha is spectacular. We added a trip to the Dorothy Duke museum which departs from here too, which was also worth a look.

What a nice respite on a hot day. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting this museum. They have a small, but nice collection, which you can view closeup to see brushstrokes and other details. Nice outdoor cafe, too.

I read they had some works by Van Gogh, picasso, gaugin so I had to go see. Really impressive. Loved the works by the masters that that had as well as the Hawaiian art. Also some Renaissance pieces.gonvisit if you have time. The building is quite lovely as well.if you have a Waikiki trolley pass you can get in for free.

A great collection of art set in a beautiful venue, the Honolulu Art Museum should make its way onto a visitor's trip itinerary and a local's To Do list. The recent Art Deco Hawaii exhibit was outstanding and they routinely have top notch special exhibits, and the permanent collection showcases a wide range of periods, styles, and cultures. A few of my favorite pieces there are Whistler's "Arrangement in Black No. 5", Pissarro's "Pont-Neuf", the Modigliani, the O'keeffe's, and "Torchlight Fishing in Waikiki". Don't miss driving up to Makiki Heights to the museum's Spalding House (included in the admission), which has a beautiful Japanese Garden and is just a cool spot to relax with a book.

This show is a real treasure and not to be missed. Also it is wise to sign up early for a tour of her home Shangri La.

I didn't expect much from such a small loins building, but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked the variety of exhibits and how close you could get to the artwork!

Very pretty, absolutely beautiful, contemplative outdoor spaces with a variety of artwork. There was a festival the day we were there for the Chinese New Year. Very fun! Nice gift shop too.
