If you want the feel of the country and want off of I-70, consider using Hwy 40/287. Going west it will take you to Limon, CO. Follow the highway signs, and after a short jaunt on I-70, exit back onto 40/287 to Hugo, CO. After a while you will reach Castle Rock, CO, which is on I-25.

I loved the wide-open spaces and big sky feeling. I stayed at Lake Scott, and did a side trip to Monument Rocks.
