Even if you are not of the Catholic faith, you will be very impressed by the Old Cathedral. The architecture, the history -- all aspects of the Old Cathedral will impress you and your family.

This church is so beautiful and worth a stop in to see it.Also right beside it is a cemetery with only a very few grave stone due to it being so old, but the ones you can read are very interesting.

Our tour company arranged for a private tour of the Old Cathederal Church and library. The church is gorgeous and the history wonderful.

Great church to visit and take stained glass pictures. There's lots of history written on plaques and a basement with Bishops interred there. Beautiful statues, a pipe organ, and the most intricately carved confessionals I've ever seen.

I always love touring the Old Cathedral Church in Vincennes every year. The architecture is grand and you must take a look at the pipe organ in the back balcony! Also don't forget to tour the basement which is normally left open (that's where several bishops were buried).

Beautiful church right next to the Memorial park. I believe their are guided tours availble at certain times of the day. It is a very historial church so make sure to read the literature available.

The Old Cathedral sits on the grounds near the George Rogers Clark Memorial, so we have visited both on the same day. The inside of the church takes your breath away. It's really a beautiful building with a lot of history

The oldest church in Indiana is one of the most beautiful. I was amazed when I walked in. It was built in 1826 replacing earlier log churches. There are four bishops buried in the crypt. In the cemetery is buried some of George Rogers Clark's men. The oldest library in Indiana is behind the church, housing the Old Cathedral Library and Museum, it has many rare volumes, earliest dating back to 1311. It was closed though.

The forerunner of the old cathedral Basilica of St. Francis Xavier was started around 1734 when the first pastor arrived. This building was started in 1826 and in 1834 Pope Gregory XVI named the church the cathedral of the new Diocese of Vincennes. You will want to see the pillars inside that are wood - not stone - from yellow poplar, and the mural of the Crucifixion by Wilhelm Lamprecht, a German from München.

"The Old Cathedral" (or) Basilica of St. Francis Xavier was built in 1826, and stands on the site of three previous churches. The first was a crude log structure built about 1732, where the first Catholic parish in Indiana was formed. Four bishops are buried in the crypt of the current Cathedral, and the adjoining cemetery is the final resting place of over 4,000 early citizens of Vincennes. The Library & Museum located behind the church contains ten thousand rare volumes dating back to 1319. George Rogers Clark Memorial is adjacent; two great attractions for history enthusiasts!
