heritage trail

Heritage Trail is a wonderful place to walk. It is a somewhat steep hill, but there is a park bench along the way where you can stop and rest. It's a great place to walk your dog!

There Heritage Trail in Madison, IN begins downtown along the riverfront on Vaughn Drive. You follow the old railroad tracks along until you reach the part where the trail becomes paved. The Heritage Trail is not completely finished yet but the part that is takes you up the hill to the Madison State Hospital grounds. A roundtrip on the trail is 1.5 miles. Great for bikers, hikers, pets. Great views of the Ohio River along the trail! There is a water fountain half way up the hill.
