The airport is a very nice place to visit especially for children as planes can be seen both landing and taking off with the Charlotte uptown skyline in the background. There are picnic tables and its also free.

As an aviation-buff, I enjoy just sitting and watching planes take off and land. But after looking at some of the not-so-stellar reviews of the Overlook, it made me laugh. I mean what else would you want? I'm sure if you would be "closer to the action", it would be a major safety precaution. Plus it's not like you are paying to be there. Okay, my rant is over. But it is a great place to snap photos of aircraft operations and planes. Plus there is a great area for a picnic. I do wish there were restrooms, but still one of my favorite places in Charlotte to visit throughout the year.

Appreciated the benches, but I thought we would be a little closer to the action. Was neat to see the different size planes.

Not what I expected. Overlooks the terminal, from the view you can't see planes take off or land. I am sure it's a security precaution but who really wants to look at the airport?

We try to make the drive down to this park about once a month. I don't know of anywhere else you can get this close to aircraft operations for photography. You can sit here all day long up until 10:30 p.m. There are areas for picnics also. The only downside is there are NO restrooms anywhere close.

My S.O. is an airport junkie. Even though I am not I still enjoy going with him to the overlook. Nice area to sit in your car or enjoy a picnic outside if weather is nice. There is also a nice long walkway that winds around the runway. Makes a great walk for the dog too.

This airport left us stranded with no compensations. The airline blames the tsa, tsa blames the airlines and customs. The problem is they don't have enough people working during what they know are busy times. The volume of flights is very heavy coming in on Saturday nights and only 2 security check point lines . We made it to our gate only to be turned away because they had already closed the door. The plane was still there and it's door was still open. The person at the gate was a bit rude seeming to blame us for being late! I will never fly into Charlotte and never fly USAirways/AMERICAN again!

Since Charlotte is a busy airport and hub, there are always planes taking off and landing. Over look is great. Picnic tables if you want to spend some extra time there! Great place to wait for someone arriving.

Nice spot to see planes land. Good security, police usually around. Try to park up front. Can get a bit crowded at times. Kids love it!

Military vet not helped at all - my son has leukemia and on crutches - What do they do for him nothing but when leaving out of Texas airport to come home and when arriving back tonight there they got a wheel chair & assisted with all his bags and got him all the way to his cab. That is showing gratitude and service for our vet. I know lots of things have changed since 9/11 but being told they will take care of my son and all his luggage here at Charlotte Douglas airport and then they keep moving gates for him then also making it where he has to climb steps with his carry on while using his crutches is unacceptable to me. I am proud of my son and the service he did for this country and them just total disregard for helping him is sickening

When all the remodeling will be fished, CLT will have the right to claim his place between the best in USA.

I have always enjoyed going to the Charlotte Douglas Airport! I consider the ,fairly new, addition of the Overlook as a great new addition to the airport. I look forward to visiting again some time SOON!!!

Really couldn't be any closer. Fun for the kids to be so close tithe aircraft. You can even get the pilots to wave at you!!!

I haven't stumbled on airport observation deck for a long time. Surprisingly fun. Great to take kids while you are passing the time. Great vantage point.I like this airport. Friendly staff in contrast to Philadelphia Airport which is crippled by bad attitudes. Here, the people are helpful and smile.Last time I was stuck here in a storm the U.S. Airways staff was incredibly helpful & kind. Of course it could have been my T shirt saying " Careful, I Sue".

We love to come here and watch the planes taking off and coming in! Our two year old especially loves it! There are a few benches but on busy days they fill up but you can back in and sit in the back of your truck or suv if you need to sit. A fun place to stop for a few and watch the planes but don't plan on making a day trip out of it.
